Barbie is a 2023 American fantasy comedy film directed by Greta Gerwig from a screenplay she wrote with Noah Baumbach.[3] Based on the Barbie fashion dolls by Mattel, it is the first live-action Barbie film after numerous computer-animated direct-to-video and streaming television films. The film stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, who go on a journey of self-discovery after their expulsion from the utopia Barbie Land, alongside a large ensemble cast that includes America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell.

Goodness, as an older adult I’d been rather reluctant to go and see Barbie, but so glad I did. Found myself with a big smile on my face for almost the whole of the film, and had not anticipated how much adult-type content there was throughout it. I’m sure there will be quite a few mums & dada who will take their children to watch this and it will be the parents who will enjoy the more than their kids. As for the 2001-style start - brilliant (worth watching the film just for that).
