I can completely relate to the anxiety you are talking about. I was someone who used to post her opinion freely on the internet and while my audience wasn’t too big, I was pressurised to stop doing it just because it did not match what my parents and our relatives and friends believed in. I had a similar anxiety every time I posted something. Thankfully, I did not face any big repercussions of my honesty but I knew how dangerous it was. I still post about it, but try to keep it out of the eyes of my family and a bit “less loud”. That is why I have always admired you! I know it was your job, but you could’ve done things differently but chose not to. I have been following you since 2018 when you used to review on FC and ONLY trusted your reviews. REALLY! What I loved soooo deeply about the movie was that it gave grace to Barbie. Barbie is not really a woman but a toy who LOOKS LIKE A WOMAN - and still humanity has managed to project all of its own biases and insecurities on what this female looking doll should be. The movie seems to ask - if a doll can be subject to such high expectations, what chance to real women in the real world have? Totally reminds me of Simone deBouvoir, who believed in how patriarchy is almost impossible to fight because even language itself was invented by men - meaning to say all systems essentially were by men and unless women find their own language - or to be less dense - find their own narrative, we will never be able to escape a world where men irrevocably come out on top. I just love this movie and loved how seen and validated it made me feel. All love everywhere. K bye :)

Let's be honest here. The movie is at best a one time watch. The saving grace is the performances, with the jokes being a hit and a miss. The set design, costumes, music is really good. However, the messaging to me came out a little too preachy. The initial writing in the first half was subtle and made you think. One of my favourite dialogues was about men being able to hide patriarchy better these days. This is nowhere near the cinematic experience that Nolan would provide you. And there is a decent amount of adult humour here as well. overall a 7/10 movie. I think people are overhyping it.

I'm Sucharita's newest subscriber! And I have a lot to say, so here goes. First of all, I've already watched the first-day-first-shows for both Mission Impossible and Oppenheimer. I wasn't going to bother with Barbie because I made the mistake of assuming it would be some silly chick flick for teenage girls. That was until I read what the story was really about. And now, after watching this video review, I'm absolutely dying to watch it! I had no idea it was a movie with such depth! However, after hearing what Sucharita has said, I realise that I really should have known better to begin with. After all, we all know that Margot Robbie's movies can always be a hit or a miss, despite her tremendous talent, but Greta Gerwig would never disappoint, and neither would Ryan Gosling! And also, I applaud Sucharita for recognising the situation created by the fact that a relatively young and inexperienced director is being put on the same level as Christopher Nolan. Don't get me wrong. I love Greta Gerwig, and I've been an admirer of hers for a long time. But I do feel it's a little unfair of the media to put such a young director, male or female, on par with one of the legends of modern times - Christopher Nolan. Still, though, I suppose that's just how the world is. The old sometimes have to make way for the young. And that's good in its own way too, otherwise, young talent would never have a chance to shine! Anyway, that's all I have to say. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go and book tickets for Barbie! I spoke to my mom about it, and I've convinced her to come and watch it with me.

I went to Barbie because I wanted to give it a try, and I promised myself I would never again enter a feminist film again. The individual, not the gender, will be held accountable when a woman makes a mistake. But when a man makes a mistake, blame all men, criticise them, preach about patriarchy, and make men feel bad that they even exist. Feminism did made sense initially but now it's just pure toxicity. What opportunities are you folks crying about, exactly? Women are more likely to be hired for jobs based on diversity than men, who must demonstrate their abilities and talents. Even when I enjoyed a scene, I could always sense that the movie was anti-family, anti-men, and anti-motherhood. Expecting a feminist to make a movie on true equality is, in my opinion, just a pipe dream. I honestly think...."This film was made to sow discord between genders and incite women to be against men".

Ok this movie can really be deceiving and disappointing, if you don't have a mature approach. Even though the plot is purely fictional, it manages to depict symbolic events that happen in the real world. ( In fact the opposite happens - with men wanting freedom power etc in comparison to women in the real world but honestly this entire patriarchy and matriarchy stuff, none of it actually works out at the end) Tbh this movie is great, hilarious and relevant in its true sense whilst enmeshing concepts of patriarchy, feminism, consumerism, humanity, existence and its meaning and even perfectionism. Who'd have thought a movie on little girls' fantasy doll could stirr such complex debatable themes, and the best part is the movie doesn't itself seriously. So all the Gigi Chad men out there fussing over this, sush your pus.

Genuinely saddened by what you shared 6mins into the review 😔 So sorry that the whole joy of putting out a video can be destroyed by certain individuals who purely exist to tear another person down. Disagreements or opposing views, I understand (my own growth has happened because of them) but to target someone is unacceptable. If anyone who behaves that way is reading this: STOP. What do you truly get from attacking someone? Is that the best use of ur time, ur growth as a person? I have had MANY clashes online myself, and after a point I realised that unknowingly, I also contributed towards making more angst, so going forth, I try to keep that in mind, as I also feel we need a kinder way of interacting with each other online. We can't change people, who have no inclination towards doing better, BUT, if we plant enough seeds, in time we'll see some growth 🙏🏽 Sorry that you experience these feelings after each video goes up, Sucharita. Big love ❤ And Happy belated birthday 🙌🏼

Unfortunately all reviews these days basically narrate the plot, making it useless to see before watching the movie. Doesn’t this miss the point of a review all together?

Patriarchy is a problem .. but when men are targetted, seen as potential harassers.. it's anxiety ridden for men too.. men like me just want to walk the world alone in my insolvent angst ...

Both are intelligent films, but when for audience, a film using a commodity in a toxic hyperconsumerist market as a vehicle to say its ideas is far easier to recognise and understand than a film that uses one of the most prominent leaps in technology by weaponising the culmination of the understanding of nuclear physics, name dropping some of the most important minds of modern history and an incident that changed the poltics of the world, to say the important things both films want to say, then there is really something wrong with our what we consider important things to learn in life.

Sucharita Girl you are OP. You are a gem of a person and provide an analytical deep dive into the psychic of the storytelling genre called cinema.

I think it’s more about why Barbie is going for Harakiri by releasing on the same day as Nolan’s movie 😝😝 There’s no competition and tbh why do we need to even compare.

I can understand your anxiety, people on internet can be too harsh and unfiltered for no reason. But don't mind them, most of your viewers love you and will always cheer for you❤

Hey Sucharita. I am a man. I like your most reviews. Internet is a space where we can all peacefully agree and disagree without abuse. I don't mean to cause you any anxiety. But I disagree with your review of the movie. We live in a divided world, where everyone feels cheated/oppressed one way or another. I am an immigrant paying loans in a foreign country where I sometimes get hurled some abuse. That being said there are more people that give you hope and optimism that makes me want to continue this journey. I am sure there are thousands of worse examples for people having horrible experiences in their life. But it doesn't mean you can blame an entire community for this. When it comes to Barbie, the reason I dislike the movie is because of its pessimism towards men and that disappointing ending. Barbie even though seeing that the "Real World" has problems decides to do the same thing to men in Barbieland(Basically make men worthless in Barbieland). That's the kind of message you don't want to give to the younger generation. Especially when people are making efforts towards equality. This movie is a Sham. It's borderline evil in its messaging. The marketing team has done a great job of hiding what the movie is about. Looking for your next review.

Has always been a fan of your style of reviewing a movie since film companion days.. many critics talk about the technical aspect of a movie but your strength of understanding the psyche of the character and the director's vision and presenting to your viewers is unparalleled... Thank you for that and if you don't mind one crtitc I have about your reviews at times I feel you a give out a Lil bit too much about the movie for example in this review the part of Ryan Gosling taking over barbieland could have been avoided.. Anyways tc and trust me you are one of the best critics on the internet in today's time..
