The eighties was when I graduated high school and graduated college in the eighties. I went to wss work at IBM and wore in blue and black the shoulder pads suites. Had the big briefcase with those pie charts. I worked out with all that colr and leg warmers. We wore the Mondonna look at the bars in college. Life in Texas in the eighties was a fun time. I cant wait to see Ken come out in parachute paints and the muscle shirt. We did talk valley talk either. It wouldn't sound right to say whatever yall. The rooster look of the hair. Higher the brain closer to God. Extra Hold Hair Net Spray was a accessory to keep the hair in place. Great memories and more of my money going out for these Three. But where is Ken y'all 🤩🤩🤩❣

The career girl one reminds me of Day to Night Barbie, one of my favorite Barbies as an 80s kid! She had a reversible jacket and skirt so she could go party after work (I'm guessing her job was not demanding if she partied right after). Very good quality. I also remember the rockers and the exercise ones too - omg the exercise in tights phase, lol. The last church VBS was 80s rewind and I was thinking, "Wait. Oldies is supposed to be the 50s? Right?" Also some of it I was the same way with - we really didn't all do that stuff, but whatever. Then I saw the Light Bright and - yeah they got me.

The musician one definitely looks like the type of Barbies I had when I was really young. Mattel probably saw how people took to LOL Remix and knew they couldn't reboot the Rockers again after botching it in 2017, so they went another route with these dolls. These are much better. Barbie and the Sensations had a song on cassette about bopping that I still kinda remember.

As an 80’s kid, I couldn’t hit play fast enough when I saw this notification. Yes, I remember them almost verbatim as you described. I always wondered if it was just me that thought it was such a wonderful time…. until recent years when everyone seems to be an 80’s fan. Barbara Mandrell “Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool,” well that’s how I was about the 80’s. The clothes, makeup, jewelry (yes those clanky bracelets!!), music…I loved it all & held on for dear life…until it came around again…YES, Carly Simon was right!!! 💖 These dolls are wonderful. LOVE the package artwork. The stands are adorable. 💖My favorite is the workout Barbie, her design is completely accurate to my memory. Next the dance club/pop star because her face reminds me of PJ…the doll I always wanted…and her hair of Jewel Secret Whitney, my favorite of all my childhood dolls. Her earrings, hairband, keytar & boom box….great! 🤍 The business Barbie is pretty, I just don’t care for her skirt & hat. I agree, she feels more Elle Woods than 80’s. But they are GORGEOUS, way to go Mattel!! Really enjoyed this!!!!
@aliceatwonderland71723 жыл бұрын
I had Jewel Secret Whitney too! I'm not sure where she went, but we still have the sparkle jacket and the sparkly blue dress. My daughter played with it when she was little, and it's in her collection now. Such a flashback! Also the business Barbie needs a reversible jacket and skirt (one side business and one party) and a cool wider hat with a pink stripe and white briefcase and yes bigger bangs. That was another favorite of mine that I remember, even though I routinely forget where I put my glasses.

I "totally" remember the hair products and this insane drive I had to get up early every morning before school so that I could shave, shower, and do my hair. I went from hairspray to mousse and hairspray to gel and hairspray to finally just gel by the time I got to high school, but I _always_ had to shave and take a shower before school (and do my hair). I take a shower about every 2-4 days now. Times have certainly changed.

My friend and I, in the car with her 15 yo son, trying to explain Karma Chameleon. He just looked at us and said, "Y'all had a lot going on back then, didn't you?" Apt! The business Barbie should totally have come with a pair of sneakers too. I gotta say, I love me a classic Superstar mold (as a fellow child of the 70s, teen of the 80s) but I don't much care for the outfits on these. I think they went just a hair too far and made them a little clowny. But I might buy one just the same. In my high school yearsm(84-86), we leaned more into the preppy look but with the super bright colors. So: bright turquoise shaker sweater over a turquoise striped oxford shirt (collar popped, of course!) matching turquoise plastic earring and beaded necklace set, turquoise socks, and a turquoise bandanna tying your hair up like popstar. It was...a lotta work. LOL

You know, MGA could do something like this, like bringing back the Bratz flashback fever that had bratz 60s, 70s and 80s inspired that i found cool too. People says nostalgia is bad, but not always. Taking a look at the past is good to see what worked and what didnt, and in terms of fashion, what could come back. From the distance we can appreciate things again!

I was Born in 1982 and I totally love everything About 80's, the fashion, the music, the movies. I remember in Poland Barbie dolls were very popular. Every girl wanted to have original Barbie. But they were so expensive and really hard to get. In the 80's in Poland you were not able just to go to the shop and buy everything you wanted. To get a real Barbie doll you have to go to the Shops like Pewex and buy for a dollars. Or have someone in your family working abroad. I remember my cousin was really obsessed About Barbie. And one day she Got a package from her uncle who was living in Germany. In that package was Barbie doll in nice evening gown. So the dolls are reminding me that era. Especially the blonde with superstar facemold. These dolls are so 80's.

Bodacious was a commonly used word on the west coast. The neon eighties movement really started in the California malls. Along with the girls of the ”valley”. Since Barbie has become the quintessential California girl, they of course are going to use the language that was most synonymous to the time. Bodacious, having been used overtly on tv and films in the 80’s, it makes sense that it’s used in the dolls description.
