Love the collection!! Just a note on box dates, the date on the box, is the year of factory license/ manufacture and the release date to stores was usually a year later. So a doll with a 1999 box date would have most probably have hit toy store shelves in 2000. 🤩💗

Loved hearing the stories and the information you shared. I think this hobby is about falling in love. As a fellow collector, I have fallen in love numerous times and the money the doll cost was totally justified. I am learning to wait for that feeling because I have made mistakes thinking the doll would grow on me over time. It doesn’t work that way. Hi Arjen!! 😁 OMG your top ten Barbie dolls are a dream!! A lot of dolls I would love to own!! I grew up with the whole Superstar and 80's era as my sister was older and all her dolls passed to me 🤩🥰. I know I need a reproduction of the Hawaiian Superstar Barbie!! 🤩🤗🤗 That would just be my dream come true!! 😫😫😫😱😱. Well, really any Superstar era doll is ok for me 😆. Loved your Hello Kitty dolls too!! And the BFMC dolls are sooo exquisite 😭. I only got a few of them. My holly grail doll from that collection would be "In The Pink Barbie" 🤩😍😍😍, such a dream!! I grew up with the Superstar Star face it was a good mold for playline dolls but didn't care for it much on collector dolls. Was glad they decided later on to use the Mackie mold instead. My favorite is the orginal 1959 face mold.

I love hearing Barbie collectors discuss their favorite dolls. I like how you grouped some doll themes together - among us collectors, does 10 have to be a literal ten? Bah! I got to see more of your lovely dolls. Who can complain about that? My favorites among your dolls would be the Silkstone Francies or the Tarina Tarantino Barbie. I don't own any of them or want them for my collection, but I like seeing them best. Oh and the Dragon Barbie has an appropriately fierce expression. Beautiful dolls, all beautifully presented. My favorite Silkstone dolls are the 45th anniversary ones. I was lucky enough to get the brunette at a reasonable price while the blonde doll I bought when it was first released and was a reasonable price. I love their extremely long hair. I tried to buy other ones but usually they're to expensive. I have lingerie #4. While moving the head snapped from the body and I hunted for another one at a price I could afford until I was lucky enough to get one under $90.00. She was nude so I redressed her in her originally costume. Another is the Spa Get Away doll. I also bought her when she was released. I especially love her because she has molded hair and comes with wigs. I want to display her again but I'm waiting until we move into a house. So she is packed away until then. 🙂

On 90s reproductions, I’m just not sure there’s a market for them? And looking even at our collections you can still pick up most boxed 90s dolls for $100 or under. So looking at what repros can go for at retail, would I invest in an OG release or a repro? B/c there was a rush on collecting Barbie in the 90s (much like comics & Beanie Babies) there were so many “collectors” who hoarded these dolls in the hope they could resell them at a later date for hundreds, so Mattel pumped out millions of units across the decade (really beginning in 1988 with that very first Holiday doll that everyone thought was so rare). I think the Totally Hair stands out as a legacy of that time period for sheer sales volume (and the relative rarity of finding them boxed, with all the kids that played with her), but when you can still snap up the main play line dolls for a song (comparably to 50s to early 70s dolls) I just can’t see Mattel investing in a reproduction of relatively attainable doll? 🤷🏼‍♂️🤔💗
