Before Barbra, no one sang like her. No one has since, and no one ever will.

Am I crazy for thinking this is one of the most incredible displays of musical talent I've ever heard?

You’re not crazy. And it’s not just her musical talent, but the whole package. She’s absolutely gorgeous and so very charming.

How many people in Broadway plays became such phenomenal stars as rapidly as she did? Everyone knew she had extraordinary talent from the very beginning.

Argumentative, temperamental, opinionated, refusing to follow direction, and oh yes, a perfectionist. The mark of genius. She experienced the rarest of occasions, the converging of her planets, and was in the right place, at the right time. The rest is, of course, history. No one, in music or the theater in our lifetimes will be greater in my eyes.

She's doing 8 shows a week, and makes the masterpiece in her time off. Astounding.

People use to ask me why I chose Barbra Streisand to be a fan of.......I tell them to see this video and then ask themselves why they are not.

It is one of my life's greatest blessings that I got to see that magical young woman perform Funny Girl live on Broadway. I was 17, it was June, 1965. As one critic said of "My Name Is Barbra": "She is so great it is shocking, something like being in love." She was the definition of charisma--pure magic onstage. You couldn't take your eyes off her; it was like watching a miracle. And then there was the voice. There will only be one Barbra. :)

My parents made us watch this. The Beatles were huge and it would have take a bomb to pull me apart from the Fab Four but I remember this this night. Even at that age I knew I was seeing excellence on a level I could connect with. She was odd and captivating. When she did "My Man" the bomb was dropped and even my Dad turned up the volume.

I was a die hard Beatles girl and I don’t think I appreciated Barbary’s genius back the. Listening to her book brought me here and now I have goosebumps.

I admire so much how much thought and concentration Barbra always has put into her preparation and love for a song or concert she puts together or decides to perform. What a most perfect blend of new voice, musical production style and ‘60s energy she was at the time! No other artists of her era, except along with Sinatra and Garland IMO, could act their songs like she could. ❤

she is one of two great broadway female leads who was stolen too early, too young to reach anything close to her potential on the boards.a supporting role in '...Wholesale' in 61-63 then this in 1964 -65 She did a brief revival in london but got pregnant. she was finished with stage musicals by july 1966. movies, concerts and the recording studio stole her away. the other such talent was carol burnett . television took her.
@SomeDaysYoureBarbra9 ай бұрын
That is a point of view that I don't usually hear. Thank you for sharing. Do you feel that the stage lost more than television/movies/music gained with Carol and Barbra?
@BTURNER19619 ай бұрын
@@SomeDaysYoureBarbra It did not have to be either/or. You can imagine there might be roles in musical theater perfect for Streisand that never saw the same acclaim because there was no superstar as a draw. How many projects were either never written or stayed in drawers because this unique talent went entirely West Coast? I also wonder what Streisand lost by not acting more with a live audience. So many actors maintain returning to the stage periodically is a tonic to keep you spontanious and connected. Carol's TV shows were always taped with a live audience, so Carol never missed that. If Barbra had insisted on a little more balance, there would have been more than one tony award sitting in her home today. Maybe she just did not like Broadway because the commitment level to each project is different from movies. Its also harder on the voice with 8 performances a week singing in character without the same amplification that a recording studio or concert provided back then.

In her autobiography Barbra woite that she came to hate performing night after night on the Broadway stage. A good part of that was the trouble with her co-star Sidney Chaplin. He was determined to sabotage her.
