If you picture the kind of buildings in 1929, it really takes a transcendent genius to come up with something like this that still looks modern nearly 100 years later.

This type of honest Industrial design is a glimpse of what the modern world could have looked like if we hadn't embraced planned obsolescence after WWII.

I really was stunned to hear that this building was designed in 1929. It looks like something that might be built in the 50s or 60s at the earliest. A true visionary. "Often imitated, never duplicated."

It really is mind-blowing to imagine how it must have felt to view something like this for the first time in 1929. Perhaps like you'd stepped into a time machine and visited the future.

Great video, well presented. It took me back to 2004 when I visited the Mies-terpiece with two of my sons, my younger son sat on one of the chairs, the security guy was a bit shocked and politely told him not to. I got a photo of the statue ‘morning’ with myself striking the same pose.

I was able to visit the building about 4 years ago with my then architecture student son. Proof that details are of ultimate importance. Just look at how the marble pieces are seamed and the reflctions in the fountains. I do need to remind you that he and the Bauhouse were responsible for the Brutalist school; not all ofwhich was beautiful and became a great influence on Stalinist era construction in Eastern an Central Europe

@FourthWallArchitecture2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ghita, Mies is a very widely published architect, so you will be able to find lots of books with good information, very easily. But if you want books specifically about the pavillion, I can recommend these, among many others: Mies an der Rohe: Barcelona Pavilion, by Ignasi De Sola-Morales, Cristian Cirici and Fernando Ramos The Barcelona Pavilion by Mies van der Rohe. One Hundred Texts since 1929. Mies van der Rohe Pavilion:Reflections. by Casals and Rovira. Mies van der Rohe: German Pavilion in Barcelona 1929, by Lahuerta, Celia Marín, Llorenç Bonet & Joana Teixidor. I hope this helps! :) B
