The #FCBarcelona situation can be summed up by the fact that lately the newer managers haven't let the youth products get a chance. And when they do get a chance it seems that if they don't score a hattrick, make 7 dribbles and make a goalline clearance in every game than they are shyte according to a section of supporters. Obviously I'm exaggerating but youth academy graduates do get more scrutinized than big money signings when it should be the other way around. Case in point people like Thiago, Deulofeu and Bartra. Thiago barely got a game in, even after Barcelona had won the title because Tito wanted to chase a stupid points tally record. That and the unnecesary purchase of Fabregas caused him to move. Deulofeu was obviously raw, but instead of keeping him around they sold him, as if to say "now he's someone else's problem." And People still give Bartra shit for getting beat for pace on the 2013 Spanih cup final when a) He was beat by Bale for pace, not not Mertesacker FFS, Bale would beat most defenders for pace, even Puyol and Pique and b) there were two shots on target by Barcelona that whole game and one goal, including the one that tied the game momentarily, guess who got them? That's right, Bartra from centre back. Plus c) Bartra had just come out of injury and he had berely gotten a game in all year, similar to the Thiago situation. Young players will have things to iron out. It's up to the coaching staff to help them get there. Hell, Xavi didn't really become a world class player until 27-28. Iniesta was a bench warmer till age 24. They both had skill but needed to mature, people forget that. You have to have patience with young players and it seems as though nobody has that anymore.

Football is becoming even more global and that means there will be a bigger pool of players and that means better quality. I think the issue with not appreciating youth products is a bigger thing for global clubs like RM, Barca, United etc... Most of Lingard's stick tends to come from foreign, or even just non-mancunian, United fans. Mancunians, and a fair amount of the other fans tbf, absolutely love him because of his connection to the fans and the fact he's local and loves the club. We appreciate the way he will go and happily spend time with young fans, or go into a United pub and buy everyone a drink. He's sort of like the reverse Rooney in that regard, who had little connection to the matchday fans but is adored by the global fanbase.

regarding Barcelona, I think Pato is the only one of you who has a correct idea over the la masia conundrum. La masia is still producing world class talent (wait till you see Cucurella , Aleña and Palencia). the problem players like Sandro, Munir, Batra and Samper have had is that they are shouldered with astronomical expectations from a really young age and are mercilessly castigated for even the slightest screw up. Bartra was forever branded as the guy Bale skinned to kill off Barca. forgetting that any other defender not named Bellerin or Alba would equally have been skinned for pace by Bale. Enrique in particular wasn't very patient with these guys owing largely to the pressure to win everything, you have us idiotic fans to blame for that. Enrique saw the reality that trusting youngsters equals not as much winning, so he opted to buy backup players rather than promote them. On a different note, City are doing some interesting things with their academy, but for as long as they need to raid other academies for talent, they're not really doing anything beyond collecting talented individuals who they will eventually resell a lá CSKA London.

Easy. The buy-back clauses, that Real uses for years now. They did it with Carvajal, Morata and now I think - with Vallejo. You sell a player to a smaller club, get some money for hhim, but include buy-back clause in his contract, that in two-years time you can get him back at usually low cost compared to his market value. Look at Morata - they sold him for like 20-25mil, which was around his market value and brought him back for like 30-35. So Morata's cost for Madrid was like 15mil - incredibly low. A Year goes by and transfer offers start at 75mil. I think this is the best way to do business. You can always not activate it, if the player turns out to be too shit for you.

I believe though your points are great that maybe the Barcelona youth academy problem is more economical I recently read a stat that 70% of Barcelona's income goes into wages. That is a lot more than any other big club. Real Madrid for example is lower than 50%. So maybe Barcelona needs to sell players from their youth academy to fund their huge wages. They are overpaying a lot of their players. Mathieu earns more than Marcelo for example. Might be wrong stats though. Not sure if I can trust it.
