AMARE Stover, 13 from Decatur, Alabama was born with a rare condition called neurofibromatosis type 1. The condition causes Amare to have huge tumours on his face which have severely affected his vision and breathing. Due to his tumours, Amare has no vision in his left eye and limited vision in his right eye. He’s been through a lot at such a young age and has sadly experienced some bullying because of his different appearance. Kandice, Amare’s mother, took him to the park one day where he was cruelly called a ‘monster’ by some local kids and he never went back to that park again. Amare is really close with his cousins and the three of them like to get outside and play in the park together whenever they can. Born Different followed the three of them on one of their visits to a nearby park to hang out and play a little bit of football.

Because the payment for those things would come from increased taxes and people don’t want to pay them. Some people can’t, the way the tax system is set up now. Libraries are ESSENTIAL too, but they are cheaper to fund than our medical system. Part of that is because the USA looks at medical care as business. There’s no price cap on these companies, so they charge FAR more for their products than what it costs to make them. (Ex: 30 days of my eye drops used to be about $300. Then when the same medication hit the shelf, it was $20 for a larger bottle.) That’s what Obama Care was originally supposed to address & establish universal healthcare, but they fought it all the way to the Supreme Court and watered down much of what it was supposed to be. Then turned around and blamed it on him that the current state of the ACA is unaffordable for some people. That’s the summary, but it’s a pretty complicated set of circumstances.

Watching this made me realize that most things I tend to worry about are just not as big as they may seem. For one thing, I’ve struggled for a long time with accepting my appearance; but after seeing this kid and what life is like for him, I understand more that I’m pretty blessed to look more “normal.” I don’t have to go through what he does, like getting treatment at the hospital, being limited from certain activities, or having difficulty seeing fully. So I know for sure that my struggles still matter, it’s just that I’ve got a lot that I forget to appreciate. Also, I love how Amare is still just himself. As a fellow teen I’m gonna try and do the same, even if it’s hard.

Even if it were possible it's a bad investment for a doctor to solve an issue. unfortunately for this kid it would be quite the endeavor because of entwined tissue between the organs. Years ago there was a man that had this same condition, he worked the Safeway I used to frequent, all the kids and people would be scared to check out in his line, one day I brought my son there to shop and there was this kid crying and scared of seeing him, my son and I calmly walk to his check stand, we pay and as we leave, my son politely says thank you, goodbye and have a nice day 👋 I can tell that little bit of kindness made him so happy. I was so proud of my son for not being scared and knowing how to treat people regardless of how they look.

I'm in tears. Parenting is tough. But this woman is carrying a burden she should never face. He is amazing. I pray that he gets all the surgeries and help he needs. Go to Shriners. I've never seen them turn anyone down. One of my adopted children was born with a birth defect. Her parents abandoned her because the guilt over their drug use that probably caused her condition was too much for them. She's a healthy adult today, just some scarring on her face, but she got the help she needed. Your son is precious. Those who can't see past the physical are blind, in another way. I don't know if the mother knows of that hospital maybe you could go look on their Facebook as I haven't been on Facebook in 5 years and don't want to go back to that . You might want to also suggest a look into BLUSHWOOD BERRY which comes mostly from Queensland , Australia and is said to SHRINK TUMORS especially cancerous tumors very quickly .

I have the same condition and unfortunately there's no cure. Even though I have it, I'm married and have one child who doesn't have it. NF NERUFIBORMATIOIS IS A GENTIC DISORDER. Like what was said, praying won't do much. The best thing would be to take initiative. However, I don't know what can be done, he's a kid for starters so that would probably make doctors uncomfortable to perform surgery on him, the tumors seem to be a part of his nervous system, they may just come back, and I'd imagine the face is a pretty sketchy place to do surgery without the patient being at risk. @Anonymous sorry you feel that way. Prayer does a lot more than you think . God hears the cries of the broken heart and gives us the strength to keep fighting when others say there is no hope. If you don't have a relationship with God or don't believe in him, it won't mean much. I thank God this child is trying to live and goes out into the world to say hey. I'm different, but I'm still here. I hear the mean ugly things some people say. I hear the laughter, the grip of my mother's hand, to help me stand tall. I can't see the world as easily as others, but I can feel it in my spirit when others stare. The most horrible part is when I hear my mother cry. Only the powers in heaven can comfort her. I am 52 and I have this disease. Many of the surgeries are classified as cosmetic elective with high price tags. The medical team at Moffitt Cancer Center head and neck helped me. The tumors have grown back a little, but I look much better. When I feel self conscious- I just wear a mask( the best thing about masking being common) I don’t feel out of place no more. I love that people think surgery cost is only a work of surgeon. If surgeon worked for free surgeries would be maybe 20-30% cheaper at most. Guys, costs of medical equipment, drugs, other staff, anesthesiologist etc. nurses, hospital. Especially in USA. Some countries have cheap or almost free medical insurance but then it is covered by government.

For a very small amount, you can get Obamacare.:) This child would not even be given the chemo treatment in a socialized medicine country because it's incurable. US hospitals are FILLED with patients looking for care that they were denied or that is simply too advanced for socialized medicine hospitals. US hospitals are also filled with surgeons and physicians from other countries. If they're the BEST they want to be paid .... just like you want to be paid. Want govt healthcare? Go to any VA in this country. You'll get to see exactly what govt healthcare is. This is not as simple an issue as you seem to think. You think socialized med is exactly what is avail in the US ... just free of charge. Not by long shot.

She's asking for help because the treatments are expensive but when it's your child you don't worry about the cost but again helping anyone on go fund me is optional but like I said when it's your child you will look for any option. That's not making it other people's problem it's asking for help when you need it which we all do through our lives, she's the one physically caring for him keeping him as happy as possible. No matter how someone looks it is ok to remember they are people like everyone else and should be treated as such. It is ok cause you're no different when it comes to being a human being and any physical imperfections can be addressed if so desired. We're all perfectly imperfect to some degree.

This is a good episode parents can use to socialize and introduced their kids to people that look different. Ignorance can lead to bullying or fear. Not always the kids fault. I had a cousin I was afraid of when I was younger because my parents didn’t socialize or introduce us to people with down syndrome. So let this be an educational moment to parents.
