23-YEAR-OLD Kayla Hayes has risen to overcome domestic abuse, and now she fights and advocates for other women who don’t have a voice. Kayla was 18 when her ex-boyfriend bit off 85% of her lip in an act of revenge. She was rushed to hospital but doctors were unable to reattach her lip. With over 350 stitches on her face, Kayla didn’t recognise herself and she completely lost her sense of identity. She told Truly: “I felt like a monster with such big scars over my face." Over the past five years, Kayla has been on a physical and emotional journey to heal the scars left behind by this tragedy. Her mom, Jamie, said: “It’s hard knowing that this is the life that was chosen for Kayla by someone else. But what she has done with this reality is amazing.” Kayla decided to wear her scars as wings, partnering with author Alisa Divine to share her story. Through speaking openly about her experience, Kayla raises awareness around domestic violence and brings about justice for others.

Keep shining I had a girl at a med spa completely scar my entire under eye area a little over a year ago and now I have permanent atrophic scars from burns and the fat has dissolved. It was intentional so when I hear stories like this it reminds me of me some even though it was not from domestic violence because someone was trying to take away our beauty, happiness, and the light in our eyes! You are a beautiful soul and beautiful just as you are and I love that you didn't let him take away your light keep shining bright!

There are maximum sentences in place for every type of crime, and they only hand out life sentences for murder in America. Even the most extreme cases of aggravated battery have a max of 25 years. I think he should have gotten the max given the circumstances, but unfortunately he only got 12 years and is eligible for parole after 10, so he might be out by 2028. He should've had to serve a full 25 years in my opinion.

This whole situation felt wrong so I simply said I don’t go and he was furious about it. I don’t know what could have happend that evening but I’m glad I moved on with my life and live peacefully now. Everyone who has to go trough domestic violence is a hero and a survivor in my eyes and their stories needs to be heard

@@chancewilkerson63 well, yes it's an issue. But imho couples should think twice before making babies. It really doesn't tell you anything. Being 21, you're only 2 years older than 19 which is still teens. My uncle was 24 and my aunt 18 when they got married and they've been in an amazing marriage for 52 years. A lesson for women (and men) is to please learn the signs of a narcissist, so you can avoid being in a relationship that could end up harming you. Kayla is helping people by sharing her story. If we were taught the traits of narcissists, more people could protect themselves from dangerous relationships. Some are easy to spot. Others are similar to Kayla's ex. They want to force you into accepting the decision they want, and look out if you don't. Blessings to you, Kayla.

@@C12341 but how do you even quantify "more emphasis on talking to women about ways to stay safe"?? Thats just the reasonable thing to do! Since you will never be able to control the actions of others, but you can always control how you react to what happens or act in ways to avoid those situations. Obviously women shouldn't be getting black out drunk at bars and going home with random men and then claiming it's the fault of society for not teaching men to be less rapey 😑 unless you take some kind glory in paintings yourself a victim anyways.

@@defenderoftruth6526 - It is the reasonable thing to do but they also should be focusing on taking the stigma away from men reporting abuse. Also more men coming out and talking about their abuse would help. It's gotten better in the more recent years but still, plenty of men just take the abuse or never report it because they think they need to "man up". I may be wrong but I think what they are getting at is that its seen as a "woman's issue" because typically its women being abused by men. It least a lot of people to think that only women can be abused, which obviously, isn't the case. I'm just guessing here.

For those wondering why her scar is in such a symmetrical, circular, and precise pattern (I was curious, too) - it appears that her demonic ex bit a considerable portion of her bottom lip clean off, which couldn't be re-attached. I'm guessing that to "fill" the gaping wound and restore range of motion with her mouth, surgeons were forced to re-align and reapproximate the entire mouth area extending into her nasolabial folds. In pictures immediately after the attack, you'll see it's just part of the bottom lip that's missing and the rest of her mouth is fine. No disrespect meant, btw, this is just to answer some medically valid questions that some commenters had.

I still don't get it. There's a few images where only a small piece of her bottom lip seems stitched (3:11 for instance). I don't understand where the large round pattern comes from?

@@C12341 I understand, in order for Him to go to heaven, he would have to repent from his sins and turn to Christ. God sums it all up with just this one verse. For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son and whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life John 3:16. God says repent and be saved but he doesn’t say Hell is temporary. Once a human goes to Hell, he’s there for eternity. I wanted OP to know that Hell is an awful place and we as humans shouldn’t want anyone to go there. Lastly, it’s not about religion, it’s all going to come down to your heart and your relationship with Jesus Christ. Did we follow His will for our lives? Did we put Him first? Did we forgive to be forgiven? Also a person who has trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior goes immediately to heaven to be in the presence of the Lord. Though their body is in the grave and decomposes, their soul and spirit (the immaterial part, the real person) goes immediately into the presence of the Savior. Daniel 12:2 says And many of those who sleep (die) in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. ❤️✝️ I’m sorry I said so much 😅
