But really the reason Bard didn't help the village was because Bard's the caretaker of the whole Universe, he's not a hero, he's a weird cosmic entity that's there to stop the universe from being deleted. I love how Riot's trailers are all done in different forms of art and storytelling. Bard's is like a classic anime, while the Shurima trailer is told through narration and ancient mechanisms moving and coming together to form depictions of the story, etc. It really makes the characters and their stories feel different and the collective roster/world of League feel really diverse as a result of that.

So, a tribe that lives by this sacred mountain is attacked (by the looks of it, Noxus?) and they want a powerful artifact that the tribe keeps. The old man is trying to run it up the mountain for safety (of the artifact) and his people try to protect him sacrificing their lives. It shows a flash of bard, who is just playing his flute, not moving. Then, the bad guys break through, and the old man uses the artifact to kill one of the bad guys with OP laser power, and then it flashes to Bard again, who senses it and is like "NOPE." Bard doesn't care about the people dying, it seems but only for the use of the artifacts. He then takes the artifact and GTFO's. Leaving behind the village with the angry noxians. Bard: The wandering caretaker... of powerful artifacts, not innocent villagers.

We can infer that the stone has a great potential to kill if misused, like when that old guy killed the soldier. The old guy was taking the stone up to that structure, which obviously removes it from the world somehow, but died before he was able to. The bard finished the job and all the structures and the sphere disappeared.
