You realise how deep this actually is when you view Tahm Kench as a metaphor for 'Greed' that the gambler had. He had a chance to walk away, but instead he started gambling again. Even when the gambler found true love with and made her his fiancé, he lost all of it with the debt that the gambling that he couldn't stop. His fiancé being classed as a 'Princess' could also imply how she is not only beautiful but wealthy. Giving the gambler a new access to more gold to gamble away. Although the gambler tried to cast him out. It ate the gifts, and house and gold! For it's hunger? Nothing satisfied. The fiancé even begged for the gambler to stop, through which he promised he would. But he didn't and so: The gambler's greed snapped her bones and crushed her limbs.

I'll preface my disagreeing with stating that I love the hell out of this teaser, but you making it out like it's some original, super deep story because "it's a metaphor for X" is making my skin crawl. A: The trope of a being, supernatural or otherwise, tempting lesser beings with promises of wealth, power, what-have-you for their own benefit has been around for thousands of years (look you up some Greek mythology) and Riot should NOT be credited with it. B: Tahm Kench is interesting enough without being relegated to metaphor, he is what he is, which is a creature that uses the greed of others.

Let's be honest, it is incredibly hard to come up with anything original now days. Not because we are lazy, because it's hard. The league has a character that shape-shifts into a giant monster when he's angry, a time travelling teenager, a hooded assassin that parkours, a condescending dragon with a British accent, a psychopath with broken views on what is 'beautiful' and the list goes on. I am not stating that Riot is not a good creative company, because they really are. They throw new spins on these designs in every department, from appearance to music to kit. Tahm Kench is very much inspired by Louisiana/Cajun culture. -He’s a giant catfish -Silver-tongued -Dat accent -Swamp King who literally lives on the bayou Just like you said, he feels extremely authentic. I'm willing to bet that the Darkin are manifestations of the Deadly Sins, who help you to indulge that sin - but at a terrible cost. Aatrox is Wrath: he helps you by making you unbeatable in combat, but in so doing darkens your soul, essentially making you a war criminal. Tahm Kench is Greed (possibly also Gluttony): he'll give you everything your heart desires - and then, when you've finally found health, wealth and happiness, he'll take it all away from you, leaving you even more wretched than you were before. Assuming that Tahm is the embodiment of both Greed and Gluttony, that leaves Lust, Sloth, Pride and Envy (if you go by the classical Deadly Sins) - but there can only be five Darkin, unless they retcon Aatrox's lore. Watch out for any champions in future that offer you a deal when your situation is most desperate - only to yank the rug out from under you later. They might just be the other Darkin...

I really love playing Tahm. He's like a slimy dark version of Braum. They're both charming and fun but for completely different reasons.

Braum is incredibly charismatic. Kind gentle giant, with mighty epic moustache and big heart. Tahm is a bit disgusting, and so obviously a bad guy that shouldn't be trusted. But you can't resist the charm. After all he is a demon with a silver tongue :) I really think Riot are nailing it with support characters recently. No more boring paladins/healers. This when combined with the Tahm Kench Q&A leaves some pretty strange implications. It was confirmed in the Q&A that the gifts, the guests and the house weren't literally eaten by Tahm. It was actually the Gambler's addiction that devoured them. ...and when someone theorized that "The Gambler was Tahm himself and it was his vice that was actually narrating the story" the Narrative Editor replied with "I like the cut of your jib" which insinuates that it could be true. So this could be the origin story of the River King, instead of just a tale of danger and warning. Remember Tahm was originally called two-coats before they settled on his actual name, this could be a reference to his dubious nature or it could be hinting at the duality that was once in him (the gambler/human and addiction/monster) before one devoured the other. Plus it even makes sense when they said that Tahm has been around since the dawn of mankind. Greed has been around for as long as we have, as everyone hungers for something.

Since this video is two years old, its likely that nobody will see this but I have to add in something the narrative editor said. After clarifying that the Gambler wasn't TF... He was asked "How did Tahm acquire his name?" The reply was "Tahm Kench is the name commonly given this spirit in Bilgewater. The real question is what is the gambler's name?" ...I might be overthinking it, but for me this only further confirms that the Gambler is Tahm and it was his 'hunger' that turned him into a monster.

Things are a lot scarier depending on the situation. With Tahm's case, everyone expects him to be evil, greedy, gluttonous, and downright malicious, so he isn't as scary. Jhin, on the other hand, is just any other human. He did things that are on Tahm Kench levels of twisted. That's why Jhin is seen as psycho. Everyone expects a demon to act like such, but a human... it's beyond normal when a human is as bad as a demon.

Whoever deals with him, its pretty much on them unlike other demons who simply give their victims no choice.

Ok guys i don't think the champion is just about water. He is the River King and he mentions a gambler. The river in poker is the final card drawn face up. Sometimes the river card can change the game entirely making someones hand go from shit to awesome. By calling himself the river king he is saying that he always wins even against bad odds. I think that this champion is is a "chance" champion. He will prolly have moves that work like a roll of a dice with a water theme to them of course.

The way the narration goes leads us to believe that this is just the story of the gambler´s deal, but it also (and mostly) about the bride´s deal. TK probably promised her a true love story, and thus, he milked her, offering her a new chance for love every now and then only to feast of her desperation once he decided to take his part of the deal. This cycle continued untill the bride had already gave TK everysingle drop of desperation he had in her, untill she was completly broken, that´s the time when TK finally sealed her fate. As a reminder, that is what TK does, he is a demon of despair and hopelesness, he tricks you into taking a deal to good to be true, he approches desperate people who he knows will take the deal and then breaks them even further, leting them feel joy and hapiness to then take it away in an instant.

This is one of the most profound characters in Runeterra lore, so I'm throwing this out there. And I see many comments that get it, but: Tahm Kench doesn't represent greed. Greed is a symptom of letting him in. He represents addiction; Or more broadly, the temptation of avoiding hardship by taking shortcuts. You could put in a hard day or you could just smoke a joint. See? The gambler is not the monster, per se, but the monster lives in the gambler as a *demon* he wrestles with. That demon lives in you, too. Maybe you're not a raging alcoholic or a gambler, but you know the sound of Tahm's voice. We've all played LoL. We all know the pull of "just one more game". The monster doesn't literally eat the gifts, the house, and the gold. The gambler lost it all because he couldn't overcome the pull. The monster sincerely pleads, "This hunger [addiction] is a burden. So please, forgive." That's not Tahm, that's the gambler begging for a break-a shortcut-just like he always does. And because he let the demon in, not only did he ruin his own life, he ruined his would-be wife's as well. You see, the soul is the only thing that satisfies the demon's appetite. It sounds like a good deal at first, but that's how it gets you.

If only I had known his abilities were released shortly after posting this comment. Though he does gobble up people, he doesn't necessarily tempt his foes. Plus the trailer didn't make me think of this guy as a support, but more of an assassin.

Tahm Kench is likely the kind of demon to change then pitch of his demonicness depending on whom he’s talking to. Like when he’s trying to hook you, he just serenades you with the southern creole voice. But then when he got what he wants from you, he gets a whooole lot more vibrate-y.

Tahm is truly silver tongued. Am I the only one who thinks the gambler is Twisted Fate? Since he owed gold and blood, and in his lore he was magically got his powers from a deal and met up with Graves (after the deal) during this time... Also it says he liked dice and gold, and had a "chance his luck again" Anyone think Twisted Fate ulted (destiny) out of the party and eventually survived? That's why the River King explains how he ate the woman (and ONLY the woman) in full detail. Anyone aggree with this? (I also think this guy is going to be from the void, since MOST not all, involves eating. So im expecting his name to have a ' )

Heat Miser ehh, looked less void-y and more like a monster. Void creatures don't talk often, and those that do are purple-ish (aside from koggles). It's also wearing a hat, so it may just be a beast.
