Hi Del, they look superb, I bet they weigh a bit more than standard, which should help with that raw vibe Busa's put out around 5500 RPM. you do wonders with that lathe, it might be aimed at the hobby end of the market but you can do some great turning work with it.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, they are actually about half an ounce heavier, no more.. the factory ones are thicker in diameter, and 60mm long, so they should take care of the vibes aye.. Thanks for your kind words, still got lots to learn, and of course i would love a heavier machine.. but it's not that easy to find them for domestic use.

Del if when turning brass have negative rake on the top of the tool , will get great finish , if you wanted a polishable finish
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul.. can i ask you to clarify what you mean by a 'Negative rake' ! do you mean to grind this angle into the tip?, or to tilt the tool in some way... not sure what you mean mate.!
@LoneAmigo17
@LoneAmigo17 3 жыл бұрын
@@Moonfleet41 when you get a new bit of tool steel , grind your front and side rake on , but leave the top un touches what we call negative or no rake, has you don’t need a chip breaker like on steel & aluminium , stone your tool has you did in the video, you will get a real good finish on brass , hopefully i make sense Del , arkansas stone is best for getting a good edge on tool steel , same principle used on making boring /threading & grooving tool for brass cheers Paul
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 3 жыл бұрын
Ok Paul, so just to be clear (and I'm learning this every day), I leave the top face of the cutting tool unground and dead flat, rather than the slight curve backwards that I currently put in, is that right? Oh they're on the list mate, i can assure you..what ever items for promotion or sponsorship a creator might get from companies, they are always things "they" want to promote... the small every day random tools you need are your own expense, and i maybe spend £150 a month on tools as it is, and have to prioritize as you can imagine... and i think ive maybe needed an end mill / counter bore bit half a dozen times in five years.. i have 6mm and 8mm already.. but this was 10mm for the screw heads.. . and i simply don't have one, and at about £20 for a good one, or maybe £75 for a set.. there are other tools that come first mate. Ill get some eventually, tool buying is a constant revolving outlay.

Delboy, have you a problem with your tailstock, it self ejects the centre and running centre, you dont appear to have tangs on the end so get two bolts with the correct thread and reduce the bolt head diameter and screw them into the tapered ends of the chuck and centre then when you wind the tailstock back it will self release, cheaper the buggering the centre bearings or driving the chuck off the taper.

As always, matey, I love watching lathe work... (But you knew that, didn't you😁) Like another commenter put, black in the grooves would be a great finishing touch. Stay well, and much love to yourself and PP😍

Thanks mate, yeah, that's a great idea, and cool finishing touch later... got to finish the plate still yet, it's still too big, and needs a better edge to it.. then there's paint, and then graphics... should look ok once it's all finished.

Y'know, I always figured the 'blunt' type bar-end weights were rather pointless . . . short on reach, no presence : ) xx

Pretty timely for me as well Del! I just realized this past week that the bar ends i installed last winter after my excursion into the gravel at the track last year aren't weighted by comparison to the stock ones and thats why i've been getting a bit of vibration into my hands. I'd commission a set from you but i'm sure the shipping would be ridiculous HAHA.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 3 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy, these are the same weight as the factory weights, just under 12 ounces, a parcel with a pair would be about 1kg all done.. the bar to make a pair will cost me about £55, the shipping is around £35, (so about $120 USD plus any taxes or import duties your side..! ) so yeah, pretty pricey.. can you not convert some second hand stock ones to fir the bike..?

Lovely bit of turning and a great looking result! I find on a relaxing ride bar ends are good to spread your grip and hold on to, they'll be great for mirror clipping too! ;) Enjoy, looking forward to the finished bike, what other surprises have you in store!! God bless! :)

Awesome work Del. Love seeing the Busa come together with your art style. Just personal preference here, no criticism, but I’d have “blued” the bolts that hold on the weights to have that blue color as the contrast against the brass instead of the stainless steel color. Can’t wait to see what you have in store next. Simply awesome.

That's a great idea buddy.. i can do that later, or even better, use clean clear oil for quenching to get a dark straw colour to the heads..match the brass... it'll look even better later on when the brass patinas down to a dark bronze colour..! thanks for the nudge !

Your skill sets are ridiculous Del and workmanship is second to none. I have a couple custom brass pieces on my 2002 Night Train, I think it's a beautiful metal and holds a certain nostalgic taste. I would like to get some custom brass one of a kind head bolt covers but didn't like anything I saw online, though it's been awhile since I've looked. Hope all is well with yourself and Penny, I'll keep you in my prayer's. 🍻

Thank you for your kind and generous words of support my friend, we really appreciate that. Brass is a very cool material for many reasons, but most of all its so easy to work and make things from, and it lasts for ever.. Take care and keep in touch aye.. All the best.. D&Pxx
