Another brilliant video Del, expertly filmed and edited by Penny. Perfect timing for the much needed Thruxton fork oil change, it resembled thick grey Bisto, I'm fitting some gators at the same time.Thanks also for the heads up on the Sealy suction thingy, was a great help for the brake fluid change.Cheers to you both.

First off.... Epic camera work by Penny !!! I was tempted to grab a dust mask as if I was right there with you two. And Del you truly have the patience of a saint to get through all that tedious prep work but the results speak for themselves. Curious how that one piece was quietly disintegrating all by itself. Hope you both have a relaxing weekend, You've certainly earned it. ❤👍👍

Thanks Rick, am glad you approve! It was a long day and 90% of it prep, but then that's always the correct ratio! Not sure why that turned out so crusty, I'm going with the bad factory prep theory... Thanks for your wonderful support as always, D&Px

The new flag looks great! Freedom is not free....As for the factory paint on the gear housing, my guess would be that the gear housing was sourced from a different supplier with a paint department with contamination issues. Probably not properly degreased. Even with a proper acid etching primer, paint ain't gonna stick long-term to aluMINium if there is contamination under the paint. With the good prep work here, hopefully this Trumpet will have a nice rear end for many moons

Exactly that Tommy, without proper prep,it wont last long. same sad affair with Harley Davidson Mudguard / Fenders.. they Always rust out and often in just a few years. it doesn't take much to get it right, but of course, "Quality doesn't make for good profit margins". Take care and have a great weekend Sir.. D&Pxx

@@Moonfleet41 Very true about the Harley fenders/mudguards. I used body filler in the seams of mine where the edges are rolled, because those rolled seams are water magnets. A little filler and there's nowhere for water and road grime to accumulate. Enjoy the weekend, you two :)

Strange how it`s only the shaft coupling housing is like it, and shaft housing is fine, is the shaft housing steel and coupling housing alluminium, or are they both ally?.
@Moonfleet41

Hadn't thought of that, but looking at the thickness of the weld bead around the shaft tube on it's end flange, I would say it's ally...

Best not to let the Memsahib see those masking skills Del, she'll be off buying wallpaper & the like . . . ("A lot of skill & hard work goes into getting a hand plastered finish anywhere near that smooth & level - so why stick old copies of The Budapest Pigeon Fancier's Weekly, or other such rubbish, all over it?" A quick whiff of magnolia (BEIGE!) & most rooms are good to go . . . Ergo, more garage time eh? As my rattle-can work is best described as 'rustic troweling by Mungo's left foot', I will now shut up : )xx

Hi Delboy, you might be right. Maybe it wasn't prepared right from the factory. If you didn't do anything would it have eaten the metal up completely? Anyway, a great job. Best regards, Frank from Florida.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 Күн бұрын
Hi Frank, no not really, the metal is a pretty thick casting and the corrosion is only on the outside surface and once I got it ground off and sanded back, there wasn't even any deep pitting in the metal... basically it just blew the coating off and festered away under the surface!

I use my bike all year round and the finish has more than proved itself so far - well pleased :)
