I've been using BMF for many years on a variety of different types of car models- late 50s/early 60s cars with their dramatically curved windows are a bit frustrating but again gets easier with practice. It takes all the tools mentioned as well as great patience, success often comes with two or more tries but its worth effort. You're spot-on with the vertical knife and straight toothpick Life's for learning and wetting the Q-tip is a new, great idea for me.

Another good 'tool' for shaping and application are the little wooden cuticle shapers sold for doing manicures. They have a pointed end and an angled end that work great for applying the Bare Metal Foil. You can get them from Sally's Beauty Supply, among other sources - CVS, Walgreen's, etc. Nice instructional video!

Thanks for the video really helpful. I’ve been building for a while and always wanted to try but I was skeptic that I would jack it up but iam going to give it a try got a question for you what brand of bear metal foil metal foil do you use? I know there’s a lot out there and a lot of people say they have bought some that does not stick I’m doing a 1966 Pro St., Chevelle by revell can you clear-coat acrylic lacquer over bare metal foil once you’re done?
@jaytherat66
@jaytherat66 21 күн бұрын
@@chriscardera7397 hey man, glad it helped you. I’m not sure if you can lacquer over it. I have however, switched to using paint for chrome I use. Alclad II i’ve gotten really good results with this paint they make it in a rattle can or a bottle for airbrushing.

Thanks for posting this useful video. I have just bought a Moebius 1/24 Hudson Hornet and I have also bought a sheet of this chrome foil for this model. I shall be paint my model into racing blue which will be a gloss enamel paint. Would it be best to paint the model first then use this stuff? Or should I use the foil first then mask it off prior to painting? I am new to this kind of thing although I have been building Airfix and Revell model kits since I was just 9 back in 1989.

My Bare metal foil is impossible to remove once it's applied it sticks to the areas I want and then it sticks to the paint on the parts I tried to remove I don't know if it's the paint or if the foils bad.
@jaytherat66
@jaytherat66 4 жыл бұрын
Foil is meant to stick and not be removed but if you have to remove it try heating it before peeling it off. I would recommend cleaning the styrene plastic model before painting it and using a primer then it might not feel the pain off. I cleaned all my models with dish soap before painting them.

That's the biggest no-no in knife handling, not only are you endangering yourself, but in some conditions others as well. A sharp blade is a safe blade, ALWAYS cut toward yourself, there's just more control and less danger!

@jaytherat66

AvionAirplane No but if you do try lightly sanding the plastic before you paint it so it sticks better or if it’s metal use a etching primer. And always give your paint at least 24 hours to completely dry before adding foil or decals. Hope this helps.
