Tried the string to nose. I have to admit, it feels good. Really good. Zero face contact, and it feels like a strong position still able to expand into full alignment. Explosive release. And it feels to help guard against overdrawing. Just wish the gaps weren't so debilitating with a 3 under for short shots. There's no easy answer! Appreciate the video series.

Thank you, this is exactly the help and coaching I was looking for. I have the canine index anchor and have been hitting my nose bad. I shoot light poundage (30# OTF) and have been struggling with 60 yards with no crawl and alignment is not quite there. I've mostly shot indoor and been training for the NFAA 900 round and maybe field next season. I'll definitely try a lower anchor style these next few days.

Congrats on going debt free my friend, That is awesome. I can tell we are going to be friends. Again, something I have tried to do my entire life was help others. I can see how hard you are working to help others as well. I can see big things in your future. With out sounding totally like a dork, I still am amazed at what I am seeing on your channel for free versus, some of the others, who give tiny tips to get you to buy into their over priced one tip trick if you will. I wont bash anyone in a public forum, I only say what I have said, simply to give you the credit you deserve for your willingness to help by sharing so much valuable information for free to the general archery community and I honestly appreciate what you are doing. (Yes I watch all the commercials so you can get your 1 cent per commercial as well.) Keep up the great work my friend, I know your wife and family must be so very proud of you and what you are doing to help others in so many ways. Dale

I love this behind the jawbone anchor for barebow, but for a 25yd fixed crawl hunting setup I wanted something higher. I have been using the big knuckle of my index finger under my cheekbone, but contacting it way back by my sideburn. It seems solid, but I have to keep my head alignment consistent. Otherwise my cheek gets mauled.

Thank you very much. In transitioning from recurve Olympic/NCAA style as I competed in to barebow I find your videos great help. As I work on form for barebow and experiment with anchor, I found a comfortable, solid anchor that is pretty much the same as yours. I was also looking for a single anchor for all distances and higher ones weren't working for longer ones.

I use three points: tip of my index finger to the corner of my mouth, the crook of my thumb hooked around my sternocleidomastoid ( it allows a better stretch of my hand than around the jawbone), and the string pressing on the front of the tip of my nose as opposed to the side, which forces my head to the same position. It's not foolproof, you absolutely have to get your alignment right or the string picture will be misleading. The downside is that with an 18m crawl the nock ends up on my nose and if you press too hard you can pop the arrow off the string (plus those Beiter nocks are sharp!).

Jake..I love your barebow form series…can you please explain where the tip of the arrow is at..during each step of the KSL shot cycle?

I start with the index finger at the corner of the mouth then set my set the base of my thumb behind my jaw. Not a perfect anchor but works well enough for me to score a 583 @ 50m, for a mailmatch competition.
@Hybridesque3 жыл бұрын
Tempted to try this anchor, as I struggle to get point on at 50m (heavy arrows at 10 GPP @ 38lb), although anchoring off the corner of my mouth seems to work well for me indoors.

Nice vid... well handled since the anchors are so different. I like the pros and cons as well as the general 'boxes to check' to focus on! My anchor very similar to yours... thumb/hand base joint notched into angle of the mandible, string to the tip of the nose, index finger and middle finger on two points on my chin. I wish I could get some more cheekbone contact that was harder and defined as well, I am just a little too low for that the base joint of my index kinda grazes it.

How does the low anchor and deep crawl affect your bow setup? Do you do something with your tiller for instance?
@sweetjamhit3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jake, well done diplomatically articulating a tricky subject! My anchor is similar, even slightly lower than yours, but for the most part I gap shoot. I'm experimenting with stringwalking and can see the benefits from an aiming perspective, but I've yet to find an effective consistency with each crawl and how it affects bow grip, string on the nose and the feel of release... maybe there's an episode on stringwalking as a standalone subject?! : )

Thank Jake. I tried your anchor, however I can’t get the correct string alighment. My string stayed on the left of the arrow. What did I do wrong?

I;ve asked this of others...is a clicker a valid training tool to help establish consistent draw length, even though it is not used in competition?
@TracyPicabia3 жыл бұрын
Another great video. Really considering that lower anchor to get better alignment. Im drawing only about 36lb so crawl shouldn't be as drastic as Jake's. BUT the slightly worse alignment (than acheived with o recurve) feels ok. Guess I ciuld try it and hope everything doesn't go tits up.

I always shoot split finger, therefore I dont string walk. Is there anything else you recommend? Like Gap shooting, or do you recommend and I shoot 3 under and start learning to crawl.

I struggle with alignment and holding with barebow anchors (unless instinctive/snap shooting, where I only hold for a very short time if at all) as it pulls my shoulders up and my draw shoulder out. Your idea helps but still not right for my anatomy. I have no issues with using an Olympic style anchor, except that it is maybe too low for string walking? What do you think Jake?
@RafelioPsi3 жыл бұрын
So, if I get it right, having a very deep crawl softens the spine of the arrow because of the harshness of the limbs… or whatever it is?! Could be the reason I’m going to need much much stiffer arrows than in my olympic setup, even if I have much less pounds of draw weight on my barebow?
@kkl2413 жыл бұрын
Hey Jake I heard people saying barebow shooter should load the top and bottom limb reversely, is that true or even correct? Please let me know, sorry for the stupid question.

@albertorodriguez49303 жыл бұрын

For the string touching the nose, when stringwalking the angle of the string can also change, sometimes not touching the nose anymore. Any ideas for a workaround?

I’ve been waiting for this one! I’ve adopted your barebow anchor and I really like it (though I haven’t tried much else). Question: how does arrow length play into the amount of crawl? I recently took video of myself shooting and realized I have a lot of room to shorten my arrows. I use uncut 32” arrows and I have a 79” wingspan. Thinking of upping the bow weight and cutting the arrows eventually, but not sure how that’ll affect point on distance/crawl.

as a new archer this form series has help tremendously to building a consistent shot cycle but am having issues with anchor vs shoulder alignment. The anchor you show feels very secure and is easily repeated but at that position my elbow cannot come back enough to come into alignment with my shoulders due to my anatomy. This causes a bent wrist at my hook and upon release is difficult to have a proper follow through because tension on the string seems to be angled out in the direction of my elbow. I have played with getting proper shoulder alignment to see where my anchor would be and its back by my ear. My face gets hit by the string and I can get basically one point of contact for the anchor, but my follow through improves. Any suggestions.

Hi Jake, i use the same anchor as you do, and at 20yards the string touches the tip of my nose as you say. When i shoot from 50m i am almost at point on, but i just can’t get the string near the tip of my nose for some reason! Could it be an alignment problem or a wrong head position, or any other possible issues? I would love to hear your comments.
@lupusverdi2 жыл бұрын
Hi fellow bb shooter here: stringwalking changes the angle of your arrow by moving the nock position up or down relative to your anchor. Due to this it would be pretty weird to achieve that nose touch on every distance bc your nose is on a fixed position in your face (hopefully) but your nock isn‘t
@lupusverdi2 жыл бұрын
Also: stringwalking shortens your draw length the lower you go on the tab. Means the arrow is pulled less far away from brace height
