Those Zniper washers are the bane of my existence.

My zniper had a wobble, I saw it only had 1 washer so figured putting a 2nd in would fix it and be a quick job...... 30 minutes later I had it done.

@@ColoursOfDan02 Although I'm just gettting back into archery, I've been involved in RC fort a number of years, and RC racing for a few years. I completely understand the "difficjulty" of getting washers (or, in the case of RC, 'spacers' or 'shims') into very tiny spaces. When trying to places shims as thin as 0.5mm between a spacing of less thsan 1mm, it can sometimes take quite a while...and many, many attempts.

What I really like about the way Jake shoots barebow is his release and follow through. I surely cannot be alone in finding even the highest level of barebow archery almost unwatchable purely because about 95% of archers have a more or less dead release. It makes me cringe and wonder how the hell they are so good despite their horrible technique!

lol funny thing is a few top barebow guys ive chatted with on social media talk junk on jake... they see him as a threat in reality .. i cant wait till jake takes his skills to the Lancaster barebow classic and waxes the competition... jakes dedicated his life to this point to recurve archery and has mastered his craft...

oh wow. I've had the same thought. their anchor looked solid, but their alignment, release and follow through just wasn't as immaculate as I'd hoped for medalists. but I guess they were consistent enough to score and had good instincts/sense to beat the other athletes. really can't wait to see what former recurve athletes can bring to the barebow scene. maybe we'll see if barebow does require a significantly different form compared to olympic recurve.

The moment you said that you would exchange the wire on the Zniper I knew what would happen. 🙈 But thanks God it's not only me. 😂 The only one way to change the wire without loosing the washers is to *push* it out with a wire of the same diameter. Then use the indoor wire to push out the intermediate wire in the opposite direction. The moment you *pull* you have lost.

That was in my mind too 😂 From stock it comes only with one washer. I tried two washers too. Annoying job to get it done. Maybe i should ask Michael Mayer what’s the goal behind that.

Finally, a barebow series! Thank you for that. Also, I rather watch you as a “non-expert” than “real” experts that don't explain anything. I hope you go into every detail and make it a mega series, specialize in barebow and compete with John Demmer III one day :)) Keep shooting videos and barebows. Cheers from Germany.

It’s always damper. Dampers basically absorb energy and distribute it somewhere else. Glad you want to say it right! Way too many people say dampener.

I use the longer wire on my zniper, it has better clearance for larger fletchings on indoor arrows, but I don’t bother changing it for outdoor as I had the same issue with the short wire not been under the plunger.

Great Video Jake. Clean run through set up and it's good for us to be exposed to challenges like the wire change. Loved the Centre-Shot section and camera centred. (English/ Australian spelling on centre vs center) I shoot recurve but would like to try out barebow later ...think I'll keep my low anchor point aswell. Bow looks killer. Get those groups. Would be cool to see an Olympic Recurve Archer's bare bow release in slow motion (high frame rate)

Perfect timing--how did you know I was thinking about indoors? I have a 27" ATF-X and have put dampers with 4oz weights in both the mounting holes behind the limb pockets with 5oz weights in the front bushings. The dampers take a lot of the shot vibration out of the riser. I really like having weight top and bottom of my riser. And yes, my riser does pass through the 122mm ring. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

@ 16:58 To clear the bottom limb bolt I put a 1/4" thick steel washer between the lower weight and the bushing, otherwise too much weight is transferred up the riser for my liking. Nobody has said that's illegal so far!!

@JakeKaminskiArchery Do you have any suggestions for limb alignment for folks who may not have a stabilizer? All of the videos I've seen on limb alignment require the stabilizer as part of the setup. I suppose I could always purchase a cheap $30 one just for alignment purposes but just curious if there is a method that could be reliably used with barebow only equipment. Thanks!

@jake : around 7:00 - why do you want to have the wire under the button? Try it as it is now, it is like the "overdraw effect" of compounds. I see nothing wron in havin a cm or 1,5 beween Button und Wire. OK, you explained at 8:00. Yet I do not see that critical, but I might have smaller crawls than you.

Silly newby question: does stringing and unstringing a bow get it off tune? And should I take it apart if I'm using it weekly? I have an aluminum riser with bamboo/glass limbs (in case it makes a difference).

Jake, i also intend to keep my indoor arrows uncut so far (which gives me a length of 36"), but i wonder if this is in conflict to where the front node of the arrow sits in relation to the contact point of the plunger. Isn't there a 'riskt' that the front node sits too far in front of the plunger (and if so, what are the possible consequences / negative impacts and is there a chance to compensate for it beside cutting the arrow?)

Jake, I'm wondering why you choose these W&W setup over Hoyt's or Gillo's for barebow? Those two are among who offer specific barebow setup, especially the risers. Is there any particular reason regarding your barebow preference? Do you find it better rocking with W&W compared to other brands?

The Inspire are really bad arrows. Inconsistent, not straight, and very heavy GPI for their size (lots of resin in that carbon).

"Damper's corresponding verb is dampen, which means to deaden, restrain, or depress. ... A dampener is someone or something that dampens. So damper and dampener can both refer to one that deadens sound vibrations."
@robbryan3044

Agreed. in RC, Tamiya calls the shocks "dampers". And, in cycling, bicycle/frame manufacrturers call the 'elastics' inserted into frames (such as the Specialized Roubaix, Pinarello Dogma, etc) "dampeners". Two different words...with the same meaning.
@bridey1simon
@bridey1simon Жыл бұрын
Dampen seems to be reserved more for non-physical things, like someone’s mood. In engineering it’s always been damp and damper for physical attenuation, such as vibration, shock loads, or oscillations. I wonder if this is one of those cases where more and more people have been using dampener overtime so they added it to the dictionary. An older American Heritage Dictionary we have (1985) does not have an entry for dampener, but includes it at the end of the entry for dampen, used as a noun for making something wet. It also explicitly defines damp and damper as used in the engineering sense, but not dampen.

If you only shoot barebow you are not going to have a stabilizer to help you align the limbs. I am assuming that many cheap stabilizers are not as straight as one would want. I refuse to spend the money for a high quality one that will be used only infrequently. Aside from the beiter blocks, does anyone know of any inexpensive aids to limb alignment?
@JakeKaminskiArchery

Actually I’ve found more straight stabilizers in cheap manufactures. Expensive doesn’t mean straight.

I'm really a novice and a DIY'er, but I drilled a piece of aluminum angle and used a bolt the same thread as the stabilizer hole to hold the bow. I tightened the bolt to the bow, tightened the bolt with a nut to the angle and clamped the angle to my bench.
