riser deflex is important to forgiveness but is directly related to riser balance. so. here we try and explain what and why deflex is and works.

I think the question with both approaches is the following: do you want the grip on the center of the bow or the arrow. You can’t have both. In the compound world this is a constant debate: this is difference in a Mathews (arrow is in the center of the bow) and a G5 Prime where the grip is centered like your approach.

Compounds have thier limbs tied togther. Cams are synchronised by that.

I would have thought that deflex should be considered a ratio of riser length to pocket line/throat depth. Isn't what we are interested in is the pocket-throat-pocket angle? It seems to me that a 68.58 cm (27") riser with a 3.5 cm depth has the same deflex as a 48.26 cm (19") riser with a 2.46 cm depth with the pocket-throat-pocket angle for both at 168°?

@@buzzhooker8398 what does that relationship establish? What would be the reason for that angle? What does deflex do? And therefor what would that angle vs default value achieve to accomplished this?

How does D-flex impact brace hights of a bow? Should you calc the brace hight as from a neutral grip position in the back/forward position?

Good question. Depends on the knowledge of the bowyer. Oh. I'll just move the grip forward.... if you consider 1" further forward grip position is 1" less draw. So you can consider making the limb exit angle more aggressive. And if you have seen any of my posts on social media, more aggressive limb exit angle, the lower the required brace height. So deflex changes total limb tip movement. It changes limb exit angle needs. And both these effect brace height. So 😉 next question is how does your favourite bowyer decide the bows brace height. I've seen some ridiculous statements made by respected bowyers. Yeah... mine run anywhere between 6.5 and 9.... never heard such silliness. You mean you have no definition as to why you choose a brace height range??? (Most dont)

Pretty sure I've seen you say the 27" Tempest has less deflex than the other lengths, be interested to know by how much.

Do you incorporate riser deflex in the warthog longbows also?
@BorderArcheryLTD

Longbows are a different beast, in that they are not as fast, so the compromise in deflex vs speed changes. The warthog is still deflexed but mildly.
brace heights. a manufacturers perspective. not a mythical thumb suck.
