Utilikilt Survival Kilt Review (2020)

Hi and thanks for some interesting videos. I know Doug has mentioned it but UT Kilts are mostly-Pakistani made, inexpensive kilts sold through a company in Utah. Utilikilts is an American-owned company that started the utility kilt trend in the early 2000s and is based in Seattle. Utilikilts are generally far superior to UT Kilts. I know it's probably a pain but perhaps you could add a caption to your video that clarifies that this is NOT a UT Kilt but a Utilikilt. The video is done and posted so perhaps that train has sailed but a caption would be good to avoid confusion. Thanks, and kilt on!

UT Kilts and Utilikilts are different companies.

I have worn kilts every day for over 10 years and many (63) of my kilts are Utilikilts and all are in all the older style pre-switchback design (that I don't care for). On the fading: I use a front loader washing machine on gentle cycle and hang closed on 2 kilt hangers, with the pleats straightened and hem pinned in place with wooden clothes pins to dry indoors over a low speed fan. You can slow fading in the cotton fabrics down a lot using cold or body temperature warm water, using a minimal amount of Cheer Free liquid detergent and rinsing ALL the detergent out. Never use a fabric softener or rinse agent as they leave their own residue. I run it through 2 extra machine rinse cycles. Dye has a rough time sticking to cotton and detergent residue plus time, heat and sun light will release the dye. The 100% cotton Utilikilts are the only ones that I have noticed any fading in over the years. The Cotton/poly Utilikilts do not fade at all - poly compatable dye? eBay is a great source for the older style - fixed size, true waist size (measure your waist) , full length pleat - Utiliklits. Many in new or near new condition due to kids not measuring first, growing out of them, needing collage money, mommy doesn't want to wash it or lacking the self confidence to wear kilts. LOL

Great review. I've been using these for a while. The pockets can also fold up smaller and attach to the back of you wear a belt. It will make the kilts profile smaller

Great review. I own the workman utilikilt. Had it at, minimum a decade. It does fade but the material held up great. I plan on getting another. Thank you for your review, I may get this version.

I have the original survival utilikilt. It has no Velcro or Asset. It has not faded at all, and the fabric is still unscathed and strong. Perhaps the new design had a few corners cut.

8:20 too high heat in the washer will do that as well.
