I used to wear tabi slippers with a grippy bottom when I studied martial arts in Japan. I lived in a mountainous prefecture (Fukushima) which received a ton of snow. The dojo was unheated, so below -5 Sensei let us wear them. These seem like a technological version of them… love it 👍

Aloha Ted, how can the hanwags fit you well? Do they have a wider toe box? Maybe you can help me 🙏 I have walked for about 8 days with package in my Vivobarefoot Primus trail. Now my knees are hurting. I might stressed my natural shock absorber too much. Can you recommend any other shoe? Was thinking about Lems (trailhead), Altra, I also love the idea with sandals. But I'm also thinking about hiking in Scandinavia. Maybe the Olav's way. I would love to know what trails you prefer! All the best From northern sea, Germany Marco

Hey Marco! Yes exactly, you can choose the Hanwag wide version or the hallus valgus version (not 100% on the spelling there) try babysteps when running and walking and focus on your stride, there’s a lot of videos on KZbin on the subject so be sure to check them out!

Ted how are you getting on with the wings version of luna sandals? Another guy on youtube rated them but said the wings on the sandals were prone to splitting

Hey Jason, I use mine everyday still and they're awesome. this is truly a case of less is more. I haven't had any splits or anything of that nature. I'll be doing another review of them later this year so be sure to check it out! /T

Looks like some good sandals for those who run. I am not a runner, so I prefer my sandals to have more coverage including a toe box to protect my feet when out on the trail. Also, they do not seem to have enough traction and I think we have way too much snow on the ground to wear these. I am not sure that they could keep your feet warm during our winters either. They look great for your area though. Thanks for sharing.

they have different soles depending on your use, and I never hit my toes in them, the "footbox" is so big it will hit things not your toes..

Thats a "no" from me. I don't run in the woods and I definitely don't run in the woods in the winter. Too dangerous and not worth the risk for me. I stick to roads in the other 3 seasons with actual footwear. 😉

im not a runner, but do live in canada and enjoy my time in nature. I wouldn't attempt to go trail running with sandals in the winter, the terrain would be too treacherous. Then for hard asphalt, concrete, etc, I think more of a cushioned shoe is better as thats an unnatural product (k, maybe rock is similar) Just my thoughts, again, not a runner, so maybe that runners urge to go off trail in all seasons is strong enough to risk limb and bone ;p good video regardless Ted!
