Same here. I bought a 1980 Honda HS55 for $325 three years ago. The machine is a BEAST. Starts on the first or second pull (no electric start), even when it's below zero. Also, Honda uses bearings NOT bushings for the auger and drive.

Hey Taryl do a video on this interesting topic. Look what A.I told me. Yes, the insulation on some wires, including those in cars, can be made from peanut oil, a plant-based material. Other plant-based materials used for wire insulation include rice . Wow so they know the mice will tear the wires up and you will be spending more money on their crappy lawn mower junk. 😮Awesome channel as well sir!😊

Iv'e worked for several manufacturing companies. It all boils down to useless incompetent management. Never once would they listen to the people who actually worked on the product and when a crisis came about they couldn't be found because they were off taking a two hour lunch break or sitting around picking their teeth. They also had no trouble lying to customers and passing blame off on others. In the rare event a good one got hired they wouldn't stay around very long. This country is in trouble.

There used to be an old timer who would show up in the display area of our regional pioneer power show with a display trailer full of B and S engines. He would drop the sides of the trailer and have an instant display. He had dozens of engines, many very rare, which were either original or restored. I don't know what his background was, but he was very proud of B and S engines, and really loved them. Sounds like the company needs more of that loyalty and care today, based on what I read in the comments. One value of TD's channel is to help pressure power equipment companies back to better products and service.
@davef.2329Күн бұрын
My late dad talked of a small generator in the rear of the bomber airplanes he flew in WWII that was used to power the emergency radio and instrument buss. He said it had a small B&S engine in it and the whole crew was trained in how to start it. Times sure changed... must have been really well-built back then.
@MUUKOW3Күн бұрын
The problem happened because the companies all sold out to investment firms . The families that owned them cashed out, usually the kids .The investors buy the name and don't give two bleeps about the product anything of value is stripped and the name sold again. The customers only buy a label. The small company still making a quality product tends to cost more and has zero name recognition so it doesn't sell. What has to change is the consumer to quit buying the crap and demand better.
@ripperaceКүн бұрын
Or the companies buying out their competitors and spreading themselves thin… Take MTD for instance… Not known for producing quality products back in the day, and they wound up buying out other reputable names (White, Troy Built, Cub Cadet, etc etc etc)… Briggs has followed MTD’s lead, and bought up others only to have quality across the board suffer. In the marine realm, OMC (who once manufactured Lawn Boy) went on a buying spree buying up boat companies, only for quality to tank, and within a decade, the entire company went belly up. Then Bombardier bought up OMC for Pennie’s on the dollar only to fold outboard motors back in 2020. As long as there’s no care, and no quality control, products suffer, consumers wind up pissed off, they end up going to Hobo Freight to buy a Predator in place of a new Briggs. I checked out on Briggs when I seen engines with mostly plastic camshafts in them. Throwaway crap!
@ripperaceКүн бұрын
The way Briggs keeps going, they’ll wind up like OMC did unless they get their shit together.

My grandfather bought a nearly identical sized powered snow blower from Sears ( Craftsman) in 1975. Winter was rough in Chicagoland back in the day and this beast could handle it. Don't remember if it was tough to repair but my mom sold it in 1990 and it did still work. It was nowhere near the hassel this modern POS was! Probably should replace those bolts with graded ones. Good PM practices shown by Taryl! Don't worry the big one is coming, one of these Winters! LOL

I have this same exact model of blower, picked it up for free earlier this year because it had been sitting outside for years. Slapped a carb on it and it ran. Found out why it was left abandoned when I took the PTO cover off and found the auger belt thrown off and shredded. Got a new one off amazon, it immediately threw that one too. Found out that the auger PTO pulley was too long from the factory, so it wasn't lined up with the lower auger pulley correctly. Pulled it off, ground it down some, and so far no issues. Waiting for it to snow here so I can properly try it out, though. Just another example of bad quality control

Hey Taryl! I just finished putting back together an old Husqvarna HBV 132 hand-held leaf blower and it ran for a minute or two then started "hunting" and stalls out if I don't constantly adjust the choke lever. It may be the old carb that has been discontinued so I didn't want to pop it open and ruin anything just yet. It could be I didn't tighten down the 4 intake manifold bolts or the 2 bolts that hold the carb on place tight enough idk, but it's a neat little machine that has pretty much been forgotten. There is a walbro rebuild kit that might have all the gaskets and hopefully the diaphragm that they sell online and at the local repair shop, Cooper's out of Jacksonville, NC.

My new neighbor last year had the Amazon truck show up and they unloaded the E-Go I told my neighbor to send it back and I'd go with him to Big Blue or Big Orange and get him a 2 stage gas unit. He passed on it and now is looking to upgrade to 2 stage gas. It's not normally the driveway, but the present the plow drivers leave at the end of the driveway. half frozen muck. Does this procedure on the belt work on MTD? I split my machine apart last time. Same neighbor, in the middle of getting the sewer line replaced. So we got about an inch of snow last night and the city thought it was enough to send the plows out. 6am I hear the plow coming then KAPOW! Plow hit the steel plate covering the trench and sent it 15ft down the street and the front tire went into the trench. My entire house shook
