Hi, I've just installed this on a new node and I get the following error message when trying to back up the whole machine "Failed to create volume snapshot / failed to take volume snapshot / failed to perform backup / insufficient free space for a snapshot in a volume group: pve" Given this has worked on my previous nodes, what could the problem be please?

Hi. Thanks for this great instructions. I used it for PVE 8.2.4 where i needed to change your script from #apt install veeam to #apt install blksnap veeam. Then all worked for me. 🙂

I'm getting the below error when running the backup job. Any ideas? [error] Neither [blksnap] nor [veeamsnap] module was found
@StephenDail15 күн бұрын
FYSA, the last command after adding the Veeam repository from the .deb file before you can install Veeam is "apt update". Not apt upgrade. You need to update the package list with the new repository you just added...and then you can install Veeam.

Wonder if anyone can help with a problem I have? I was able to get Veeam installed and a backup made, when I try to restore to a blank hard drive I get an error that there is not enough space on the target drive which is a 256GB SSD even though the image is only 32GB. I have tried the restore on multiple machines including the actual pc I am running ProxMox on and get the same error

Hello Mike! Just wondering if you have such idea for a similar software that supports ZFS. I am using my Proxmox VE with ZFS, but unfortunately Veeam does not support it. Any hint would be highly appreciated.

I think this video is just referring to bare metal backup ( just the ProxMox OS) for all other VM's, LXC I would assume you would use ProMox Backup Server, I know People also use Clonezilla but not sure yet about zfs
@jurgenb7713 ай бұрын
You can secure the VM as an image with the backup functions of proxmox. Or you can install Veeam Agent in the VM and make backups. In both cases, the file system does not matter.

This works, but doesn't restore thin LVM volumes. When restoring, it restores them as thick volumes. Any way to fix this?
@h2dc2 жыл бұрын
As far as I know it may be a limitation of Veeam itself, but I'm unsure, as I haven't ran into this particular issue.

Thank you for this! Just had something on my Proxmox UEFI get messed up somehow on a HAOS VM backup, and have lost everything. Don't want that to happen again so I'm shopping for options. If I wanted to use USB storage to do the backups, do I just plug it into the USB and the Veeam interface will recognize it? Or do I need to do any other steps to mount it to the device before Veeam will see it?

Hello, Thanks for your Video, I installed veeam without problems, but when I want to backup the complete device, I receyve this error: 12:57:02 Job BackupJob1 started at 2024-04-11 10:57:02 UTC 12:57:02 Preparing to backup 12:57:03 [error] Logical volume [snap_vm-103-disk-0_eunning] is not active 12:57:03 [error] Unable to backup object: [snap_vm-103-disk-0_eunning] 12:57:03 [error] Failed to perform backup 12:57:03 [error] Unable to backup some objects 12:57:03 [error] Processing finished with errors at 2024-04-11 10:57:03 UTC So Itried just to backup the Volumes, which worked. But after restoring on a new hd It is not booting ( I suppose sda1 and sda2 have not been bakuped. To overcome this I tried only to backup sda1 and sda2 with the intention to restore them aditianall, but this gives me another error: 15:12:50 Job ProxmoxBackupBoot2 started at 2024-04-11 13:12:50 UTC 15:12:50 [error] Failed to perform backup 15:12:50 [error] mount error(13): Permission denied 15:12:50 [error] Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs) and kernel log messages (dmesg) 15:12:50 [error] Processing finished with errors at 2024-04-11 13:12:50 UTC I have no clue what to do now. I haven't run into this particular issue before so I don't have much insight right away. What version of ProxMox do you have? I know that on some machines I had to uninstall/reinstall a few times to get it to work correctly.

If you were smart enough to build a complicated ceph cluster - 3 node .... you already have your 3-2-1 back up strategy.....

Not something I'm too experienced with yet, but I'd imagine you set it up like on each node separately!

Hi, sorry about the later reply. It sounds like you have the wrong package repositories configured, double-check that you have the proper PVE repos, restart the machine, and try from there

I haven;t run into this issue before, but it might be a limitation of Veeam itself. If you like you can head over to the H2DC Discord server and post in the tech-support channel and we can take a look at it - discord.gg/cvSj2QGXqw

That's, an amazing option for bare machine backup, Thanks. I see that you also backup your VM's. Any idea how restore ProxMox server were the VM's are on NAS?
@h2dc2 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, the locations of the VMs shouldn't matter when restoring using this method, it should act as if the hard drive was simply copied over to a new drive. Definitely let me know if there's something I'm missing.
@scottsolomon75792 жыл бұрын
If the VMs are not damaged and are still on the NAS then restoring the ProxMox config would just bring back those mount points and they should just show up as before.

Can u try this with unraid system? I hope so
@h2dc2 жыл бұрын
If I recall correctly, Unraid is Slackware based and I believe Slackware is not supported by this particular method. There may be other options available, however I am not as experienced in Unraid, so I cannot speak authoritatively on the subject.

@h2dc2 жыл бұрын
Make sure you've installed the .deb package from Veeam's website (important), then after that's done, you need to do another apt-update (also important) to update the repository information otherwise it won't be able to locate the package.
@djchase78222 жыл бұрын
This works for me, I think I missed the apt-upgrade* (also important) step. I followed along with you after that and started the back up. I have a few follow up questions, what interface does proxmox use when backing up via veeam, I have 10gb on my network and wanted to use that to my network share (TrueNAS). Lastly, are you able to show the share you setup on the Windows PC? just wondering, as you typed the location of the share so simple, for me I had to /mnt/share/location. Thanks again, great video! adding it to my HOWTO docs
@djchase78222 жыл бұрын
Answered one of my own questions, the IP address of the share, determines that network :)
