Like the train derailments a few years back, this isn't new. It's just newsworthy as an echo of a major one. Once people stop clicking on it, it will stop being written about. Boats hit bridges all the time.

I don’t think this was necessarily intentional, but from looking at the bridge itself, it looks like there was not a route for this barge pass under any section of this bridge to begin with so you have to wonder why it was there at all?

My first guess is the tug had a mechanical failure, lost power, and the current pushed the barge into the bridge. You can see from 0.25 till 0.32 it appears the rail line got smashed out of existence, but the roadway looks without major damage.

Something’s fishy about all of this. First it was a whole series of trains derailing after the chemical derailment in Ohio. Then it was lots of Boeing incidents happening in short succession after a whistleblower comes out. Now it’s bridges being crashed into after the Baltimore Bridge collapse. Seriously?

Or, perhaps there is a financial incentive to sensationalize ultimately minor events into a huge thing so news agencies get your clicks. Like boats hit bridges all the time.
