I was in Bari at the end of April this year, one of the best things we did was have a private food tour. Wonderfull! From local cheeses, meats, pasta's, foccacia to the Gelato and more. All while walking trough the old town, harbour, churches/Cathedrals, near the castle and learning about the history. Highly reccommended!

Sorry to burst your bubble but St Nicholas doesn't have much to do with Christmas, esp. in the Orthodox world. His is known as St Nicholas the Miracle Worker and, unlike the fictional Santa, treated as a very important historical and spiritual figure by tens of millions of.Christians. Which brings me to the next point--St Nicholas Basilica may be a tourist attraction but it is a working church. I spotted a few women in the video who were wearing something verging on beach clothes inside the basilica. That is at least insensitive--and think about whether you'd show up looking like that at an historic mosque in Cairo. Also, men can never go wrong with taking off their headgear in a church.

A lot of tourists don't realize that August is when like, all of Italy takes their vacations. And the beach is the favorite spot of Italians, so don't expect it to be easy! Also, there will be a lot more random things closed in August unless you're in a tourist spot. Basically, hit Italy any other time of the summer 😂 And yes with the electrics! Just remember to not run more than 2 major things at once. If you need an air condition on, don't expect to be able to use the stove top AND the oven. Don't run a dishwasher and do laundry at the same time. It's crazy

Being from puglia, I highly don t recommend you to come in July. That s the worst you can do to yourself. Temperatures are 100+ degrees every day. Believe me, it s better to deal with tourists and closed spots in August.

I visited Bari two weeks ago, loved it. I stayed in the modern part (Bari Murattiana), but it was a very convenient location for Bari Vecchia, the Lungomare (waterfront promenade), and the train station. The modern part is full of shops and restaurants - I enjoyed the bookstores in that district. Via Sparano and Palazzo Minuzzi on that street, Corso Cavour and Piazza Umberto I are musts in that area. But yes, Bari Vecchia is great, one of the most enjoyable old town districts I've been to in Europe. (Two personal recommendations: Via Addis Abeba, a gorgeous street I discovered by chance, off the Lungomare, and the excellent Archaeological Museum at the upper end of the city wall promenade.)

Saint Nicholas was from Izmir, in Anatolya when it was Greek cultural area. Venetia's and Bari's sailors take away reliquaries of Saint Nicholas when muslim Turks arrived in Izmir, so they avoid destruction of his bones by muslims. Now there is 2 important churchs who got his bones: San Nicola in Bari e San Niccolò in Venetis. Minor fragments are everywhere, even in some american church. Ciao!

In Rome in the church, Santa Maria in Cosmedin, the one where you put your hand in the mouth of the stone face, are the relics of St. Valentine his bones and skull in a little glass case labeled. On Valentine's Day I used to send pictures of his skull to some of my more cynical friends. Saints and Sinners, Popes, Kings, and Peasants we all end up in a pile of bones, but some of those bones are revered for whom they once were.

Two comments: 1 - the orecchiette in the streets thing: if you want to go and look at ladies making fresh pasta, you can enjoy the view. But I wouldn't buy ... 2 - center town is actually way safer than any other city in Italy, so don't worry too much. I haven't actually heard about anyone getting robbed or attacked in the old town since I'm living here (20+ years) All the rest is pretty spot on! Good job!

@Counter_HourАй бұрын
Just a hint (and sorry for busting a myth): don't go buying pasta from the ladies in the old town, it's often regular "industrial" pasta (still good but horrendously overpriced) sold as home-made. The real fresh homemade pasta is kind of sticky and moist, if it's dry it's industrial. It's a tourist scam, and no, they don't need "support", they're probably much richer than you

As always, learning and enjoying your videos! Just wondering, does Bari shut down in shoulder and off season, cos that’s when I always travel, but of course I want cafes, attractions and shops to still be open. I’m thinking of visiting there in November and I’m keen to go to Alberobello for the trulli houses!? Cheers from Australia

No, we are not strictly touristic, so if you come off season you'll still find cafes and attractions open even at a later hour, but it will mostly be locals. Same goes for Alberobello.

One don'ts of Bari is don't eat outside under someone else's flat, especially not in their door. Yes, many "restaurants" selling self-taught garbage puts tables outside illegally and Italian police is legendarily impotent when they have to do their job. So please, be a nice to the locals and don't eat at noise places and don't disturb others. There are many families with kids and elderly there who struggle due the abuse of the restaurants.
