I have a bass range voice and retune music down to my vocal range. Baritone guitar is a MUST for me.

Most of my recent music is written in B Major, which is the key you're in if you play in what would be the key of E on a regular guitar. It suits male vocals MUCH more as far as songwriting goes in my opinion, and has a percussive element to it that electric guitars don't. I am just starting to play shows again because of it, and I feel like I finally found my "sound." 10/10 go buy a Baritone. I just have a cheap Dan Electro.

Ok FINE I'll subscribe. 😁 I typically play in a CGCEAD tuning and have been on the fence between picking up a baritone or running heavier strings. This was spot on to hear your take

It's amazing what the same frets making different notes can do for your creativity!

the guitar in the video is a 29.75" scale length but its not too hard to get used to

whats the tuning you're using?

BEADF#B is what I've got it set to in this video! It makes it really easy to wrap your head around where are the notes are because it's essentially standard tuning with an extra low string - a bit like a 5 string bass, but here the G is an F# to make the intervals the same as a standard tuned guitar, which is what really effects playability.

Phoebe Bridgers mention… John Mark McMillan mention… Bon Iver mention. What!? Talk about heavy band that uses baritones in a beautiful way - LOATHE

Really nice to see someone playing low and using more than the lowest two strings. Beautiful stuff

I am kind of intrigued by baritones and may get one. But a small voice in my head says: it’s just a guitar with 5 extra lower notes. That’s it. And if you are playing anything that doesn’t use one of those five lower notes then you could have played it on a regular guitar.

It depends a lot on how you relate to your instrument. I was always personally more interested in alternate and lowered tunings that were hard to do on a standard guitar without having way too much slack on my strings. For a long time I had the practice of keeping one main guitar in Db standard and another in Db open. If I wanted to play in E standard, I could just slap a capo on. It was so much easier to go up rather than down. I was also never a big lead shredder, so I had limited use for the very high notes you lose when down tuning. But even with all that, it wasn’t until I noticed Phoebe Bridgers playing in the same open tuning as me (though she capoed up) that I realized a baritone was really the best fit for what I’d been doing all these years. Even counting my basses, I have only a couple guitars out of 14 in E standard, and that’s largely due to how easy it is to capo up to E standard on a down tuned guitar anyway. So for me a regular guitar is just a baritone with 5 extra high notes; and I’m always tuning away from them anyway.

yeah I was assuming songwriter for about 30 years and I worked real hard and eventually became a real musician and stopped writing introspective nail gazer songs about how unhappy my life has been and learned how to play all the other kinds of music in the world. From jazz to ambient to rock to balloons to ragtime. Yeah singer songwriters. Done with that. As for the guitar I think it sounds great! Perhaps you were just attempting to be humorous?
