I recently bought a Fender Player II Jazzmaster. I absolutely love it. It's the red one so you can see it at distance. It is my first JM and I really don't know if I miss the rhythm circuit or not. Most of what I hear is that it makes a great kill switch, which is likely how I would use it. You can darken up the Pups by adjusting the volume down Dialing back on the tone does it as well. Still jangly and articulate.

Option to monitor directly from the mixer while recording through USB? I’m thinking about purchasing the XR 18 to use as a mixer in my home studio. It will be great for rehearsals and quick USB multi track recording to Logic. Do I have the option of using ultra net or auxiliary outputs to monitor the incoming analog signal as well as the option for processed software monitoring?
@lucemiserlohn
@lucemiserlohn 17 күн бұрын
Yes, that option exists, however, it depends on how you use the output channels with your DAW. If you do your mixing in the box and just send the main output out to the mixer, you can feed that into the (comparably) less useful channels 17/18 and still monitor the other 16 inputs in almost real time (the latency introduced by the mixer is about 1.5 - 3ms depending on how you set up your mix and effects, so definitely unnoticable). You could also take your 16 inputs, send them to 16 DAW channels, do some processing there, and send those channels out again into the respective channels, in that case you will add your software latency. Or, if you're recording only one source at a time, change your signal routing so you record the input, and feed the rest of the channels from the DAW. Using the PC software, this is rather simple and fast to do, so you don't have a lot of holdup on this. All of this applies to the X32 also, although that one is a bit more versatile still in that regard. Hope that helps.

Congratulations, kid!! GOOD ON YOU! I cut my teeth on my brother's brand new 1960 Jazzmaster which he ran through his brand new 1960 PRO amp! I was a very blessed guy! I used to love to work out songs off the first three Ventures albums! No tabs back then! Enjoy that guy with real NITRO finish! It's a beaut! I'd like one of the red ones!! Gotta get it quick before Fender changes everything!! Cheers! I agree on that price! But it's OKAY! And it sounds great!! Or the Lord Jesus coming back and taking his church out of here! The key is to record low as possible on the guitar and bass and piano , and to have the voice up but also low as possible when you live record because you want a controlled sound and then you send it all out the speakers together to make it fit in the stereo image better… that sustain was killing you guys on the high end bro

I am a studio engineer who worked professionally in the 1990’s. Fast forward 30 years, I started running theater sound for my children’s productions. I learned about digital mixing boards. I was looking to build a new rig to multi track live band demos. I was stunned when I discovered the XR-18 and X32 Behringer mixers can be used as a multi track AD. It’s great to have one device that can do live sound and recording. Very cost effective. You can always buy a dedicated 2 track higher end AD for vocals later. Great video.

I still go back and forth about whether expensive guitars are worth it. I actually started out the opposite as you. When I was younger I would only buy something ridiculously expensive because I was already somehow a snob. 😂 But now 20 years later I’ve realized I can actually be pretty happy with squiers and other cheap guitars like Harley Benton. That JM does sound fantastic though. Love your playing style too.

Behringer's biggest problem with that mixer is the Wifi in it. It's terrible and insecure. The better options for preamps to do something similar are the Soundcraft Ui24. Preamps are better and you can record direct to USB.

@Scott__C
@Scott__C 2 ай бұрын
@@GregoryGuay I don't think it has SD, but a USB- B port that I'd use to record to an iPad. I didn't monitor from it, so I can't comment on its latency, but for just recording a live session or rehearsal it was good.
@lucemiserlohn
@lucemiserlohn 17 күн бұрын
The preamps are alright for most cases, and if you want something fancier, you can always insert a dedicated mic pre in the signal chain (even after the fact). Unless you're recording acoustic guitars or vocals, in most cases you don't need a dedicated mic pre anyway. Certainly not for things like full drum kits or guitar cabinets with SM57 and a Dual Rectifier ;) I agree on the wifi, it's garbage. For my units I use the wired network connection and a rackmount LANCOM wifi router to provide DHCP and wifi. I use my rack rig in varying environment, so I need my own wifi independent of my home setup; but the LANCOM routers support VLANs and static routing tables, so I can dedicate one port for connecting into my home network when I use it there to make it reachable for my DAW etc.
@GregoryGuay
@GregoryGuay 14 күн бұрын
@@lucemiserlohn does the single LANCOM router have a pass through so your computer gets the network without wifi(as well as Behringer)? I’m looking at an xr air 18/32 once I’m ready in six months. Or A&H. I almost jumped on the big Behringer sale but holding off to see what they are releasing next!
@lucemiserlohn
@lucemiserlohn 14 күн бұрын
@@GregoryGuay The router I'm using is quite capable (and not so cheap) and can handle VLANs, multiple static routing tables etc. Used, those are pretty affordable, new is way to expensive for any hobbyist use. In my application, when using the system mobile, I connect to the WiFi and can see the XR18 from there, and when integrated at home, there is a static route to my home network so the system can see Internet and everything in the home network. My DAW computer has several network interfaces, so I can assign one of those to that network with a static IP and no gateway to reach it if I need to. My system plan goes a bit further, I want to use a RasPi integrated in it to control the whole system (Helix and other MIDI devices and the Mixer) using just one floorboard. But that's a few months out still.

Is that possible? Thanks in advance.

I am kind of intrigued by baritones and may get one. But a small voice in my head says: it’s just a guitar with 5 extra lower notes. That’s it. And if you are playing anything that doesn’t use one of those five lower notes then you could have played it on a regular guitar.
@EWall1498
@EWall1498 7 ай бұрын
It depends a lot on how you relate to your instrument. I was always personally more interested in alternate and lowered tunings that were hard to do on a standard guitar without having way too much slack on my strings. For a long time I had the practice of keeping one main guitar in Db standard and another in Db open. If I wanted to play in E standard, I could just slap a capo on. It was so much easier to go up rather than down. I was also never a big lead shredder, so I had limited use for the very high notes you lose when down tuning. But even with all that, it wasn’t until I noticed Phoebe Bridgers playing in the same open tuning as me (though she capoed up) that I realized a baritone was really the best fit for what I’d been doing all these years. Even counting my basses, I have only a couple guitars out of 14 in E standard, and that’s largely due to how easy it is to capo up to E standard on a down tuned guitar anyway. So for me a regular guitar is just a baritone with 5 extra high notes; and I’m always tuning away from them anyway.
