Well, this was absolutely fantastic. I have watched so many videos of picking patterns and fall asleep before anything interesting happens. I like the use of the pinch and inside/outside terminology. The smile that came across my face when you moved from slo-mo to playing full speed was pure joy. These 2 little patterns are so satisfying. Six minutes that'll last me the rest of my life.

I have seen so many bad videos on fingerpicking on youtube where they concentrate on using a picking pattern or a totally pointless thumb pluck, thumb, pluck... This is fine for the first few hours but as you have amply demonstrated in the last part of your video, the aim is to get your thumb and fingers moving independently. A good and informative video, well done.

I LOVE these patterns. There is a song I thought I would never be able to play on the guitar, then I realized that the second pattern is extremely close, so now I get it and it's within my reach. I have a question. I am coming from guitar. I have very limited mobility. I am unable to get my strumming/picking hand in that position. I have no problem finger picking from an angle further out (somewhere between what you said not to do and the position you are in) and can do so quite well, but if I brace my pinky finger on the sound board as you do, I cannot move my fingers to pick. Also, my fingers physically do not bend that far for medical reasons. When I put my pinky on the sound board, the other fingers are all frozen except my pointing finger (which feels like I am pulling against a rubber band to move it. No problem if I skip the bracing and just pluck the way I always do. Now on guitar, I have issues keeping track of what string I am on, so the bracing problem is a serious limitation to me advancing. How significant do you think this will affect my uke playing, or do you have any other suggestions for how I can anchor my hand? So far, I don't seem to be getting my strings mixed up like I do on guitar, but I only just got my uke yesterday.

I find I can pick without bracing and many say bracing is a no no. Apologies for the tardy response my notifications need fixing. Hope you’re still at it.

It sounded to me like the plucking had changed timing when it went full speed but No, slowed down to 0.25% is was exactly the same. Quite a relief to learn I'm just not fast enough yet.

Sorry bud but having hooked fingers draping the hand draped over the sound hole instead of as a natural extension of the arm is poor technique, which explains your feeble and uneven tone.

thanks Rob. Have you got a video showing how it should be done?
