I’m a 23-year-old baritone, I’ve been able to train my voice where I can reliably head down to F2 without fry, and up to A4 without going to head voice. My head voice goes down to A2 and it extends up to D6 when properly warmed up Whistles depend on the day. Sometimes, nothing will come out, and other days, I can whistle into the 7th octave with vibrato. My most reliable whistles tend to be from B5-F6, but most mornings allow up to A6(although mine are not good quality whistles, they’re still notes I can hit) I recently hit C7 when singing Emotions by Mariah Carey, and I also recorded a video of me being able to whistle E7 about a week ago. However, nothing above A6 has came out in over a week, so I’m thinking I was just sick when I whistled E7 lmao I nearly fainted when I realized I had just whistled the highest note in Emotions

F2-A4 is literally my current chest range without having taken any lessons. so i'm not a baritone? could it extend further if i take lessons? i used to have mega pipes before i hit 13. i could belt G5 seemlessly. now it's my highest note in head voice. 😅

Highest chest note for me is middle C and my lowest comfortable chest note is F2. Head voice goes up to Bb4 and down to D4. Falsetto for me goes up to C5 down to C3. I have a really terrible range lol. Just a month ago I could go up to C7 comfortably but now i've lost two octaves. I'm starting to hate puberty.

5:44 - "A baritone can sing the same note a tenor can but the sound will be a bit darker" - is this true though? I feel like the issue is actually that a baritone who sings up there loses the dark color of the voice and they will have a thin, squeeky sound. I think if baritones just sounded dark and robust up there there wouldnt be people worrying about this. But the problem is actually that the opposite happens to baritones when they sing up in the tenor ranges - they can somehow make the sounds but they just lose all the depth and richness to their sound which they have down in the lower registers.
@Thevocaliststudio2 жыл бұрын
NO. Although this is also very much a personal issue. I am a baritone. Go listen to some of my singing videos. Judge for yourself. Some is thinner some is thicker sounding, but that is based on the sound.

I’m a Lyric Baritone trained as a toner. My teacher clearly realized I was a baritone but always jumped with glee at the opportunity to substitute me for tenor roles. I never understood this until it was time sing. When I soared, I really soared!It was warm but also dark, opposites that some how blended. Very interesting to hear.

I'm a baritone and before purchasing and training with Sensei Rob's program, I was convinced that I would never be able to sing higher frequencies. I now know that not only is it possible, but Sensei Rob offers the absolute proof. Anyone thinking of purchasing the program should stop hesitating and buy it. You will not be disappointed. You can and will achieve the ability to sing better than you thought you possibly could. Thank-You Sensei Rob for your dedication and passion to help people sing better and expand their potential.

Good comparison. It's not only the range itself when it comes to voice colour. There are tenor-like sounding baritones and baritone-like sounding tenors. The individual timbre makes the difference.

I am a slightly deeper baritone than Robert here and I can tell you that the connected mid register with the head register is a bit of a challenge for the thick bass-baritone voice... Getting the right air pressure and diaphragm support is tricky,, and the muscle cordination around the vocal chords are also difficult in the beginning.. And if you do not practice for a while, be prepared to do some extensive training before it gets seemingless again...

I'm doing whatever I find. I started to do vocal lessons in February and I can't sing a F4 without straining. I'm 19 and I would love to reach high notes but I have no improvement for months. Oh I hate to be a baritone. It's so frustrating.
@mrbigbigtoe5 жыл бұрын
I have the same issue. Try listening to an opera baritone and see if you can match their tonality and/or singing position One thing you can also do is attempt to find where your resonance is at, and follow the resonance up. It might make your teeth and/or nose vibrate on the inside of your head. It’s pure feeling. If you can feel resonance, you aren’t straining (never sing loud or hard to hit a note. You should have total volume and expression control over EVERY note you sing) Some people refer to this as “dynamics” So basically, start singing a note that is absolutely comfortable for you to sing with or without proper technique, fade your volume in and out without feeling strain, and work your way up. Finding the position where you resonate is how you do this the most easily, because you can NOT resonate when strain is present. You also will have a forced/unnatural vibrato if you have any at all. Support equals resonance and resonance equals support, as you can’t have one without the other. This is what my natural ear has basically been telling me. I’m not a trained professional, this is just how I practice my singing. Also, switch to head voice. My natural break can occur as early as B3-C4 when I’m not warmed up. Until you get practice or if you have vocal damage, you might have to flip into and out of head voice rather than sing through the break, as I still can’t seamlessly transition through my chest to head or head to chest voice without a break unless it happens accidentally Just my two cents
@RC-yj7dm4 жыл бұрын
@gabriel sabangan I don't use pure chest voice when I go up to an F4 but I use mix. I used to have strain on that note (E4 and above lol) but now I'm getting more consistency. TL;DR: I used to but with enough practice I could reach F4 without switching quite easily.

@@UzairKhan-qd3xu Being a tenor with a large range is as good as being a baritone with a large range but better than a tenor and a baritone with a limited range. Depsite the fact that being a tenor for my voice is better than being a baritone when it comes to the tessitura, I still can have a large range enough to manage some baritone songs but have most of my songs be tenor. I went to elementary school in the 90s and even my music teacher back then didn't say that Baritones couldn't sing high notes. What he did say is if you wanted to be able to continue singing high notes through and after puberty I would have to keep practicing singing high notes before and through puberty if I wanted to keep my voice. Once your past puberty you have the ability to continue doing it. Now from what I can tell, you can still get the ability after puberty even if you didn't practice through puberty, it's just a bit harder than if you had and takes a lot more vocal training. Fortunately I was in chorus and boy choir all through puberty so it's a lot easier for me to get my voice back than some other baritones that weren't training through puberty. But yes baritones can definitely sing high. It's just a matter of how much work you'll have to put in to get there depending on how much work you did on your voice when you were young.

I think the difference is the lenght of the vocal folds. People with longer vocal folds have lower voices. Thikness of the folds is what makes you of a lighter or heavyer vocal type. The main dofference of a dramatic and a legiero tenor is that dramatic tenors have thicker folds but of a similar lenght (I think but I'm not sure).

absolutely. I had 2 excellent teachers in my late teens and early 20's both were Opera singers.(my first was a classic female soprano (very large woman who could sing her butt off) who ultimately referred me to my male teacher) I would never blame their techniques but I saw with time things I was surprised they never worked harder to develop in my voice that would have possibly extended my range. I had 2 books back then Bel Canto (Cornelius Reid) and one other who's name escapes me right now. (I am a rock singer not opera) I am thinking of getting the hard cover version of the 4 pillars but was curious...I would have access to the videos and midi files once I sign up? Although now I'd consider myself a hobbyist singer...I do want to take my voice where I feel it ultimately could have gone..and who knows. I might start writing and recording again once I start seeing some progress. Which would be great and really make me satisfied I ultimately saw it through! Thanks Robert/

Hi I'm 27 years old. I'm usually sing a bass part in the choir. Before, my usual range will be from D2-E4/F4. When, I learned mixing, I cannot quite reach low notes that easy compared before. My usual range will be from F#2-Bb4/B4 and sometimes C5. But comparing my C4-F#4 and the rest of the fourth octave, my voice sounds weaker. Though, accessing A4 is much easier now because of mixing. I think I've found my passagio but can't master it yet. What should I do to strengthen my G4-C5 notes. Usually, my voice shakes at G4-G#4. Thank you! Headvoice, I can reach a relaxed E5/F5. If I'll push, I can reach til G#5 to A5 but of course that's unhealthy. Thank you so much and more power. 🙏💪

This video is really refreshing and inspiring in a world that's full of classical-minded musicians. I've always been told by my music teachers that I'm a tenor and they tell me when I warm up on the scale I can go higher than when I sing, however I don't feel comfortable around and above the passagio zone and I do go lower than expected. My problem is that I tend to "unconsciously" switch to falsetto when I'm supposed to enter my mixed register while singing and I don't know what to do about that, ,y last two teachers told me I can sing those notes and that I should but never told me how. Is there anything I can do to stop switching to falsetto too early? Thank you for your time and effort. Cheers. Samir

Thanks for your quick response, the link to your page and your song, you seem to be a unique man as lecturer as well as in the studio. I'm honestly I'm not good with books at all, prefer videos and might consider lessons in a couple of months instead of the book. Just need to double check how it would work with the time difference between Seattle and Sweden where I live. Thanks again and hopefully we could work together some time in the very near future.

Robert, thank you very much - I really enjoyed this information, i will indeed check out your website and information. I am singer / Songwriter and have always wondered how I could improve my singing voice in a sense so others could hear the quality of my original song material. I probably fit perfectly in the Higher Baritone range just naturally cause I can sing comfortably down to F2 and minor struggle to A# 4, even with that being said I am really interested in improving the "Sweet Spot" of my voice. I write majority Country/Rock , I am hoping your programs could help. Thanks Again, Jeff

What type of baritone is this video referring to? I'm a baritone and my highest natural chest voice note is an E4, which is classical baritone. A lyric baritone can go up to a G4 which makes it easier for that voice type to sing tenor.
@sonnyitaliano41584 жыл бұрын
Range isn't the most important thing when it comes to singing. If you can sing to a high b4 or b#4 then you'll still sound like your singing a tenor high C. Only a good listener can tell the difference between a b4 and a C5. People prefer hearing warmth in the baritone voice especially mixed middle voice. One of our strengths in singing. The weighty manlier powerful sound that lighter tenors lack. I'm also a proud Lyric Baritone. Comfort range. A2-G#4 Extended range I usually sing in A2-B4-A4 Falsetto to soprano C6, D6 Whistle F6,G6,A6, D7, Bb6, C#7 Whistle goes to

Best youtube piece I've seen on this subject Rob. Matter of fact, I can think of a lot of famous Baritone rock singers who can sing high (deep) and connected in M2 : David Draiman, LaJon Witherspoon, Chad Gray, David Coverdale, Huey Lewis, Fee Waybill, Tom Petty . . . . there's more. : )
@freetobe21115 жыл бұрын
Draiman is a tenor. He can spend much time in the A4/B4 range without tiring. Just because he has a deep fach doesn’t mean he is a baritone. May as well call Placido Domingo a baritone (who himself stated that he started out as a baritone, but grew into a tenor). Don’t get me wrong I love many smooth baritone voices.

@@SkiSavesLives nah you're a tenor. What does that F2 sound like? If that is your absolute lowest note without vocal fry then you are a tenor. I am a tenor and can only hit a G#4 in full voice because I'm untrained. And some days I can go as low as C2 but a D2 is pretty reliable. Most people think they are baritones or even bass. The case is always because the voice is untrained. Being a tenor doesn't magically make you able to hit high C's in full voice.

I was a high baritone for a while without being choir until I joined in high school and by then decided to learn to sing high only to find out that after high school I had made a transition to tenor in which I am probably a low tenor with a sustainable high tessitura that I am trying to develop (probably full lyric, spinto, dramatic, or heldentenor). I discovered that some baritones that sang high later transitioned into tenors and most of them sang heavy with a timbre that associates with the Wagnerian tenor roles and became heldentenors. I know that low males can sing tenor notes but is there any advice for males that made transitions from baritone to tenor as far as singing high notes and tessituras go using the same perspectives in contemporary techniques when it comes to classical crossover singers because to go with singing Wagner's leading heldentenor roles I would like to sing Andrea Bocelli and Josh Groban songs as a rising opera singer who sings different styles of music including contemporary music (classical crossover).
@Ignasimp8 жыл бұрын
You where provably always a tenor but hadn't developed your higher register.
@bradleymonroe64438 жыл бұрын
True. Most dramatic and heldentenor voices never developed it and got miss classified as baritones.
@Ppstate328 жыл бұрын
Bradley Monroe that's called baritenor. High baritones that trained to sing higher! PS: most baritones are high baritones, 45% of people become baritones (usually high baritones), 35% tenors (I know right, I thought they were not as common), and 20% become basses
@bradleymonroe64438 жыл бұрын
I agree I was always a tenor but I had to sing baritone repretoire to start off easy before making the transition just because I did not develop a high register. I may be a low tenor or med tenor (possibly full lyric tenor, spinto tenor, or heldentenor? Depending on my passaggio points.) Low tenors are usually like F sharp tenors (spinto tenor) and F tenors (dramatic tenor/heldentenor). Med tenors are probably G tenors (lyric tenors). I may not be a high tenor or A flat tenor (leggero tenors). I would have to use the same technique of Juan Diego Florez and Lawrence Brownlee to be a leggero tenor or to have a masculine and clarion ringing sound like Ramon Vinay and Lauritz Melchior to be a dramatic tenor or heldentenor. I may go for lyric tenor and spinto tenor rep like Pavarotti or Placido Domingo.

I think you totally nail it on the head. I'm a transgender female who was classified as a high baritone/low tenor in highschool and I speak in the alto/mezzo range now, check out my first voice feminization video and I do an example of it. I'm classified as a solid tenor now, cause I pretty much only sing tenor. But my point is. I went to a voice coach who told me I'd have to speak low in a female voice because I had a low male voice, and I totally proved her wrong :) anything is possible with a ton of practice :)

I understand that low notes are not popular as much as hight so most people don't bother but maybe you can give me some hints? maybe i can apply 4pillars to the low notes as well? Thanks in advance! I'm low baritone btw.

And my low notes are 1st and 2nd octave ones. I can easily sing them but i fell like the power/volume could be better giving my voice type. Damn, I’m a baritone and I can’t get below F#2 comfortably. My upper range is pretty solid though. I can go all the way up to a A#4, and then an extension of up to A#5 with falsetto. I’m turning 19 this year so my voice probably isn’t FULLY developed but I think my my lows will smooth out more as I age.

For me, still vocal fach is NEED to know.. Its important to know your limit first.. Then we can slowly widen the range.. But yah, u are right, baritones can sing higher, but still, not as high as tenors can.. I baritone ofcourse and i can reach d5-e5 even c6 but for 1sec or less.. But still, tenors can do it easier than baritones.. Thats the fact.. For baritones, to do and stay high as tenors, we'll consume alot more energy than they are.. 1 Wrong move, u r out..

Freddie Mercury was a baritone.

Yes, was. Because he's dead now. Unless he's hiding out somewhere in Russia or something.

If u want call an extremely high baritone as "baritone", well, you can, but for me he was a low tenor.
@laurensvanderklis26695 жыл бұрын
Since these classifications are from classical singing nobody I feel you should treat them as such. So in that world Freddie Mercury would be considered a tenor. There isn't really any doubt about that.

can basses sing high
@adriendjouadouhatcherian-s18588 жыл бұрын
Yep I'm a bass ans thanks to Robert's clarification on some points, I can easily hit belty rock high notes up to G/A5 (even if I'm in opera training).
@adriendjouadouhatcherian-s18588 жыл бұрын
+Robert Lunte Yeah what Robert is saying is absolutely true. Working on belty high notes (without an opera type of sound) improve drastically the quality of high notes (F4 as bass in my case) in the opera mode because it makes work better some muscles than would take a lot more time tout developp while singing just in M1.

+Adrien Djouadou and sorry for writing "hit" :p
@Rock-Metal915 жыл бұрын
This makes sense. An example, Beyonce is a Mezzo and can hit belted notes up to an 'C6', with her head voice going as high as F6 and her lower register going all the way down to an 'F2' (which is a Baritone note), having a 4 octave range. She apparently is classically trained by Tenor opera singer, now vocal coach David Lee Brewer who taught her in the Bel Canto technique of singing and she applies this to her voice now. Another is Annie Lennox (who is a Contralto) who can belt all the way up to an F#5 and sing in head voice to about 'F6'.

Tenors sound like girls anyway especially countertenors lul. They even compete with sopranos on who can sing it more sissily.
