The second cable/handle next to the choke is the hand throttle. Kind of like an early attempt at cruise control, very cool. Fantastic find. For the love of God put her back to original spec.

Nice Z! I used own one back in my college days! It was an awesome & outstanding car I had from 1976 to 1980. It was a 1973 Datsun 240z blue with factory air, Anson wheels, 4 speed, black & white interior, & low mileage when I first got it. I still have the radio from the car...Good luck guys on rebuilding it. I will watch for more video. Yes flat top carburetors were on 1973.

Awesome find!!! So, the tool compartments are behind the seats and are made of plastic. Bumpers are original! Steering wheel is original series 1 as well. The air cleaner has no flap, also series 1. The hood is def original. Does not have the corner reinforcements that later ones do. Alternator is the grapefruit style series 1, which are very coveted, so do not throw away!!! #907 is called racing green. Original engine heads were E31 , not E88 ! So engine is from a 260z. Unfortunately, u are missing the ealry series 1 valve cover that says "Nissan 2400 ohc" but u can still find nice ones used, but not cheap! The knobs underneath the dash on each side are fresh air vents. Anyways, what a great great find! Congratulations! She looks like a great project! GL!!!! I have an early series 1 built 4/70 ;) and have opened them since the late 80s. Awesome cars!!

Correct, those bumper guards were there from the beginning. Also those fresh air vents are for the foot well. I've heard that the second slot next to the choke was for the "Oklahoma cruise control" option to set the throttle position, but most likely to save on manufacturing costs the cover piece (for choke only) could be used whether the car was righthand drive or lefthand drive.

The 260z engine is basically a stroked 240 with bigger exhaust valves,,,a much quicker engine,,,,when all the emission stuff is ditched and webers or su's installed with headers are pretty quick ,,

Carbs appear original early carbs. Also the mirrors are not original. The original mirror was only on the drivers side and they were small chrome mirrors.

Nice find ! Nissan was the company. The car was originally called a DAT car, then a Datsun. As a model of the line of cars. The same way that Ford has Mustang, or Chevrolet has Camaro. The stickers probably survived because it was stored indoors. I had a 1979 280ZX. She was a beauty ! The tool kit was stored in a side area along one side of the hatchback, just before the speakers. Two extra storage spaces were just behind each bucket seat, with hinged covers that you opened featuring chrome handles. The center arm rest also had a small storage space that you could access by tilting the cover towards the passenger seat. I sold her and used the money to buy a 1991 300ZX Twin Turbo.

that particular, low vin, 240z should have came with a L24 block with E31 head. The "tool box" you're refering to is behind the seats. Its there but different from the later Z models. Awesome find.

As on owner of a '71, you had me explaining to the screen the inaccuracies and missing details. The '70 stowage compartments were behind the seats, not on the top of the rear deck. The carbs were round-topped until 72 when they switched to the trashy, vapor-lock-happy carbs. Typically quickly replaced with the earlier versions. Interior was labelled as "butterscotch". Floor vents for the knob you pointed at in front of the door you couldn't identify. The slot next to the choke is a hand throttle, which was common on cars in that era, however Z owners and dealerships would pull them off because of safety concerns. The headlight buckets were fiberglass because Datsun couldn't figure out how to manufacture a metal version at cost and quantity (from what I remember, could be wrong about that). The vents on the rear hatch are the vehicle's air vents... all cars have them, but usually they're hidden behind body panels. In '71 the moved to the rear quarter emblem which is why they're bigger and has a much deeper cavity behind them. I don't know the exact reason why they moved them, but I know exhaust fumes would leak back into them really bad. My '71 was done in February 1971 with a serial 22238, so 13 months and 21k cars later. Good luck with it.

Although they are common to see on Z’s, these actually never came factory but rather was a dealer option back in the days. They were known as slotted mags.

Since there’s been a lot of questions regarding the price we paid - we paid $4,000 for the Z on top of the u haul truck and trailer driving 4+ hours away! Grand total was between 45-5000k

Looks like a really honest car except for the non-original engine. Still absolutely worth it on this one. Incredibly straight car. Unmolested original 240s were like early Camaros- for many years, they were worthless used and because of that they were bought and ran HARD, frequently by young folks that didn't really have alot of money to put into them to maintain them properly. Think of that guy in high school with the black Camaro with mismatched mag wheels and perpetual primer spots that never seem to get painted over. They never had the money they needed to do it right. These cars were modified with mags and speaker holes and all sorts of garbage aftermarket wiring "solutions" in the engine bay. lol. Almost all 240's were absolutely TRASHED when I looked for them, even 25 years ago. Good luck on the restoration- keep it original spec because its an early #'s car- PLEASE don't modify it and you'll do well on it!!!

Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!!!
