In my teenage days I replaced the original carburetor with a Weber high performance carburetor. It wasn’t running properly, I went to see my trusted VW guru and said the problem is that your distributor is vacuum advanced and not compatible with your new carb. The solution was to replace the distributor with a mechanical advanced distributor, problem solved. What did I know at the time, I was only 16 at the time.

I think 99% of the running problems will go away when you ditch that carb. Can't wait to see the update. Overall one of the nicest looking ones you've drug home.

I thought it sounded like it was running on three cylinders. 😂 yeah that seal around the engine compartment is vital. It keeps a lot of heat out. It’s honestly a nice car, those progressive carburetors are complete nightmare. . I always like the dashboard so much better without the vinylcap. Looking good my friend!

Great video. Thanks for sharing. From the first turn of the key, it sounded like it was running on 3 cylinders rather than a carb problem. Not a fan of the pan filter. I ran a 1302S (1600cc) with a Nikki twin choke carb with pan filter back in the 1980s and the manifold would freeze up until I added the cardboard pre- heat tube into the side of the filter.

3:22 "Hey we got AC!" That engine goes to show, you need to build with a well engineered complete kit rather than just adding pieces. Even with a Vintage VW Beetle, there is so much to know! I can understand the one thumbs down. I felt like I was suffocating listening to the engine trying to breath. I grew up in VT. You, live in colonial heaven.

That screw you're thinking is supposed to be 1.5 turns out is actually an idle jet, not a mixture adjustment screw. Solex carbs have something similar, when you're having trouble getting a solex carb to idle and you crack that jet to get it to idle, it's not a permanent solution, although some guys will grind/file a line in the end of the jet as a band-aid.

That screw your were trying to adjust is the idle jet. That's the thing I like most about the weber carbs is the ez access of the idle jets. One thing I learned with mine is the air filter assembly that comes with them is junk. Needs a better air breather assembly.

@@5150mxVW mostly 3 reasons for a fire , dirty filter with no clamps builds pressure and pushes off the hose. perforated hose from age/wear tube came out of the carb. Can always be avoided with regular inspection.

Hi Jason. I believe the air adjustment (idle air speed) screw on that 32/36 DFV is actually at the base of the carb where it meets the manifold. I am not sure which side of the carb (the side you can get at or the fan shroud side!) the air speed screw is on. In the video it "looks" like there is a small hole at the base of the carb just above the support bracket. Could that be where the air speed screw was but fell out of? If you can get at the base of the front of the carb next to the fan shroud try to see if you can feel the screw head . The screw at the top of the carb you were turning is one of 2 idle jets. Each barrel of the carb has its own idle jet, and these should stay tight in the carb. Once you locate the air speed screw check that it isn't bent and is screwed 1.5 - 2 turns out. Good luck and nice '67 you have there!
@5150mxVW
@5150mxVW 3 жыл бұрын
Hi , yes I probably had my lingo wrong , I was able to turn the idle adjustment ( base backside ) with my finger and a screwdriver slid topside on the screw slot . I was thinking the idle jets were adjustable as well , I will screw them back in . From what i've read these carbs need the correct dizzy and muffler pre heat ....I'm going to go stock or duals . Thank you for the info , I appreciate it , have a great weekend .

The car is nice, but it looks like it is the carburetor, I had a 1973 Super Beetle, it had a similar carburetor, and what a piece of junk that was it was so that I ended up putting a Volkswagen Solex Carburetor, that car runs like a charm, I sold that car the only that had to be done was a paint job, the car runs awesome, the engine I had it rebuilt with new OEM parts, the transmission I reached it cause it would pop out of gear, somebody gave me the 2 front buckets in their factory vynil,the person who bought it had it painted and he has a new car.

Yes, quite right, an amateur resto-mod. Your 67 appears to be an early 67 due to the front seat-back release lever position at floor level. With that Weber type progressive two-barrel carb, expect about 18 mpg at best and a carb flat-spot upon acceleration. I know, I have one just like it. I expect the engine is a 1641cc slip-in kit. Add the matching cigarette lighter. Has after-market Mexican or Brazilian front fenders and probably explains why the spare well was redone. Missing it's original "Hella", chromed brass, SB-12 headlight trim rings. Incorrect rims and caps. Yes, running on 3 cylinders, probably a partially plugged idle jet, etc. You might also replace the heater on this, too. Otherwise, you have the basic makings of a nice 67 Bug.

Think you need a book on WEBBER carbs mate, the progressive twin choke was the most commonly used carb on factory cars in the UK and Europe before Injection came along on many types of vehicles.. At one time I was known as the guy to get multiple choke webbers running right on your modified motors/ KZbin or google must give you some help..

@@8068 Where do you want me to start ? - my best advice is youtube, the internet, Haynes book on webber carbs - DONT JUST THINK you know what your doing, I was saying leave the bloody jets alone when i first saw the guy fiddling with the carb..It was built right before it was laid up, my sons race beetle motor had a "holley" but was a webber copy, but smoked 1st and 2nd gear, just one twin choke carb making that much power, all in one simple engine top carb.. Search HELP not me, im done with it all as i`m 73 now - lol - but as always - good luck.. Oh, as I live over the pond i`ll not be popping In to help either - lol

well I just found out it was painted in 2015 ( a friend texted me that their friend did the paint ), which makes sense with tire date of 2014 and my feeling that the motor has almost no miles on it ....

Wow it sure looked real pretty there. Obviously the previous owner had a thing for chrome go fast accessories. Wasn't quite sure. Did you say it HAD been hit or had not been in a collision when you were looking it over. I'm hoping you will have future footage of this little bug after a bit. I'd like to know how it turns out.

@@5150mxVW Hey it's been a couple months now, how is the old girl doing? Is the underside nasty or pretty solid. It wasn't in the video. I loved the look of that red ghia you had parked behind the bug. Yours or a customer? Yeah I'm nosy but I love ghias.

@@oldtanker4860 HI, i have not had it on the lift but i think it's a pretty solid car for a New England ride ...at least a good driver ride ( once back to stock intake / carb ). I don't have any customers so it must have been mine :). Must of been the red ragtop 71 Ghia , I drove down to West Palm Beach FL for that a few years ago . Not nosey at all :) Thank you Old Tanker
