Barn Find MG TD Restoration Part 2: Oil change and SU Carb removal

Part two of the restoration of the 1953 MG TD belonging to a friend of mine. The car was owned by the previous owner for 40 years, but has been untouched for the past 15.

In this episode, we prepare to get the engine running by changing the oil and filter in the engine as well as draining the oil from the gearbox and removing the carburettors.

About that oil filter, there should be parts on the bolt inside the can before the filter goes in. A spring, a washer, a seal and a plate. If these parts are missing the filter isn't doing anything.

Yes, the spring and plate were inside the housing, but I didn’t bother disturb them as they stayed in place when I was putting the new one in. The spring compressed fine when screwing the assembly back on too. You are very observant, thank you!

only someone such as yourself can get away with saying "...if we look at the hole from whence the oil has come..." and not sound like a complete fruit....jolly good! looking forward to the next installment.

I would have thought that the first thing that you would have done is to wash the car!

Well, I felt that the need for tinkering was more pressing....besides, I hear one needs special skills to wash a car these days!
