Nice looking car. I'm looking at a restored one this coming Friday that I'm hoping to purchase. My wife's not convinced or a car person, but I'm ready to pull the trigger & have some fun in my golden years!

Good luck. I hope you get it. The best part of owning a collector car is joining a club. My wife likes cars but isn't crazy about them but she enjoys being part of the car club and some of the social and driving events we do .

That being the case, let your son buy it for you. Is it a 1954 with the XPAG TD style engine or a 1955 with the 1500 engine ?

The music is annoying, part of the joy of a TD is the sound.. ruined by the "music". The steering wheel is mounted upside down. Otherwise nice TD. My first car, bought in 1964/65, was a 1953 TD MK II, about 1700 made. This was the competition version of the TD. I currently have a 1963 MGB . I am looking at a 1954 MG TF (as pictured in your graphics) which has the same XPAG 1250 engine as the TD.

This is a beautiful restoration. Extra points for not having a walnut dash and wire wheels, and not having black upholstery. TDs did not come with those, but made their way into the cars over the years. I wish you many rides on many sunny days.

The TD is a practical car for today's traffic but it does look a bit like Rommel's desert car after the TC. Never mind these cars grow on us over time compared with the printed cars of today.

The dumb surf music covered the sound of the motor. Otherwise, I enjoyed looking at it . Speaking of seeing them in movies, Tom Hanks played in a film that takes place in 1942. He's a fighter pilot based in Israel and he meets a girl. First time they go out, he drives an MG TD !!! I laughed when I saw that . They just wanted him to drive a cool sports car, so they just grabbed anything they could get , without knowing what it was .

It looks kinda old. Can this thing keep up with 70mph traffic on the interestate? I hotwired and stole an abandoned rubberbumber MG Midget once upon a time, and it got a nice 50mpg. But Id ont' think I'd fit in one now.

chopper girl.. You again with your fiction. MG Midgets do not, and will not, get 50 MPG. You asked this same question about 70 MPH on another youtube video. The answer then, and the answer now is, no.
@choppergirl
@choppergirl 2 жыл бұрын
@@jeffhildreth9244 you do understand you get different mpg driving city stop and go and drifting on an interstate nonstop dont you? A frigging General Motors Vega got 40mpg highway. So a little MG Midget go cart rubber bumper with next to no wind profile and light with 1200cc engine... yeah... I got 45 to 50 mpg highway. I was surprised at you and 18 at the time... My Honda Rebel consistently gets 40 city 60 highway. Small engine, low speed, light weigt, small profile in wind. My Honda CM450 has a 45hp engine versus the Revels 15hp, and gets 10mpg less. More power at your disposal equals lower huel economy. Your burning up more gas in a bigger cylinder. I had a Camaro with 400hp engine and racing chuck that heavy insanely accelerating car got about 15 city 25 highway.. or less. It would throw you back in your seat though. 50 mpg is not unusual. It also depends on the air temp. Colder air is denser with more oxygen so you'll get higher mpg in the winter versus summer. More oxygen and more air us avhiger compresdion and more power per 4 engine revolutions.

@@jeffhildreth9244 This is the rubber bumper model MG Midget I'm talking about: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4rbk6Smicxmiqc 50mpg driven non-stop interstate around Dec 15th from Chicago to Georgia drifting behind a semi-truck, two college students on board, no tools no luggage and probably no spare tire, hot wired with the keylock cut of with a hacksaw the night before... haha... I just stole a car, look out my dorm window at the street below, let's go, we're going to my house for Christmas because I'm homesick like a bleepity bleep. I have no idea where I got the phillips head screwdrivers hacksaw, it would of had to been from a toolbox in the shed of my girlfriends landord 15 blocks away. One heck of a lot of walking back and forth that night i wore out some shoes.I know where I got the working battery tho, from a 1965ish Mustang parked down the street someone had left the door unlocked on, and I popped the hood and lugged the battery up the block in the dead of night. Yep. 50mpg. It felt like being propelled by angel's wings because I was broke. Don't stop don't lose that semi hold that gas pedal steady up and down the hills and shun those brakes! :) Thelma and Louise baby! The next summer we bounced across Europe on plane tickets bought on her Guranteed Student Loan.. also forbidden! kzbin.info/www/bejne/fITZc3l3oLCXjtk

Many MG folks did not like the 54-55 TF, however many of us think that is was the most beautiful and stylish of the T series. The most definitely "had the look". I like them all having owned a 1946 TC, a 1950 TD and a 1953 MG TD Mk II. I currently have a 1963, the most practical of all the MGs in my opinion but currently looking at a 1954 TF.
@adoreslaurel

@@jeffhildreth9244 My only gripe about the TF is the placement of the Instruments, pandering to the US market, saves manufacturing costs, does not look as good, also I like to look at daylight between the front guards and the bonnet, dont like the way it swoops up and probably hinders access to the engine components but that is just me,, don't know if you have ever read Ken W Purdy's book Kings Of the Road published in the mid 50's, he says re MG's that in 1953 the TF was introduced and was not received with great enthusiasm in Amerca, that his take on it, I read a workshop manual fot the T series once back in the 60.s and it stated re the TF 1500 DO NOT GRIND THE CRANKSHAFT, must have been considered the end of the line for durability in the XP engines.
