A glorious early spring morning on the North Norfolk Coast. It's the onset of half term week and the adjacent coast road is about to lose it's early morning slumbering mode. The other side of a hedgerow and one of three local Barn Owls is about to provide over an hour's almost non-stop activity. There's an air of apricity as the temperature heads over 10C and a soundtrack of smaller birds suggests spring is about to be sprung. But the main player never disappoints.....It's such an honour to witness this graceful bird in such a perfect setting. More videos in the DBLM Wildlife library, and a website "Landscape Moments" with wildlife and landscape galleries. Thanks for watching.

Depends on time of year, length of daylight/night. Quite usual to hunt until 8,9 or 10am in the morning, especially if there are young to be fed - and particularly after wet and windy nights when hunting may have been less productive or just not feasible. The hour or two before sunset and particularly the hour or two after sunrise are the best times to see and photograph Barn Owls - once you know where they are active - and that probably depends on food available, farming practices, harshness of winter, etc. (In the featured video no owls where spotted between 6.30am sunrise and 9.00am - and then two were active until 1030am.)

Video made before I started using editing software. Prey was caught on each occasion with between 30 seconds to 3 minutes eating on the ground, often obscured by long grass or owl facing opposite direction. Video sequences chopped when owl flew over the hedge to adjacent field! The details of the event are still greatly treasured.....
