Glad to hear you say you were going to play with seating depth. Crazy, but just a few thousandths can make a difference. I now get my velocity sweet spot and make 3 shot groups in .003 increments til I'm happy. I have a load for my 7mag with 139gr lrx and getting 3" at 300 yards. I could probly improve but it's a pencil barrel tikka that's always needed 15 mins before the next shot to group, so happy with 3 consecutive shots and 3" at 300 yards. Just need to put them on an animal now

Hey I've enjoyed most all of your videos that I've watched in maybe this past year of viewing. This string of 7mm-08 videos I've seen have been maybe my most enjoyable. The 160 grain Partition is my most favorite you've done and to me makes the most sense for big game hunting (for me here Inland Northwest). But my favorites are not everyone's. Also with the all copper and lightweight 120 grain makes a lot of sense for deer sized game (IMHO). Good work here! Maybe you'll take another rifle/scope and caliber/bullets review. It's really neat seeing these available bullets performing from your loads and rifle. Thanks!

I didn't have much luck using new Nosler brass in 3 7mmRemMags, 2 are Tikka and one is a build. But after it's first firing and neck sizing only, it was like pure gold. With the Tikkas I settled on Retumbo and 140 TSX and the other is Reloder 22 and 150 TTSX.
@rogerf72655 ай бұрын
My dad was really big on only neck sizing his brass so that's what I've always done since it's only going to be fired in that gun. When I had my Savage 110 Classic chambered in 7 Mag I was running 62.5 grains of RL22 with a 175 grain Nosler Partition and it was an absolute tack driver. I wish that I still had that gun.
@Accuracy1st5 ай бұрын
@@rogerf7265 I neck size only until the chamber and brass tell me it's time to FL size. Depending on the rifle and load I usually get up to 3-4 firings neck sizing only. If I have a really hot load I can neck size up to 2 times only. I keep all brass sorted accordingly

It's amazing the velocity that the little 7MM-08 is capable of. I've tested a lot of powder and projectiles in mine and have safely pushed 150 grain bullets 2950. Will they load properly through the magazine? No. I have to seat the bullet out so far that my repeater becomes a single shot but it's still fun.

Really enjoying the 7mm-08 series. I’m not a reloader, but I have a new 7mm-08 and it’s fun watching you try to develop the optimal load. I’ve been buying different off-the-shelf loads to see which ones the gun likes. So far, the 150grain Hornady precision hunter and the 140 grain Winchester Deer season XP have been the most accurate in my gun. Others tried include, 140 grain Hornady’s White Tail hunters & SSPs, Federal’ Fusions & Barnes triple shock X (non-lead). I have 140 grain Nosler Accubonds on the way. The search is nearly done:)

With the LRX bullets I just follow the Berger recommendation on seating. Start with seating some just off the lands or even just touching - 3 shots. Then load 3 at 40thou deeper, then 3 more another 40 th deeper, then a final 3 another 40 th deeper, now being around 120 th off lands. One of those will shoot best in a given powder charge. Whichever one does just make 5 th deeper and 5 th further out and work with those.

I like Barnes bullets. The 120g ttsx have amazingly consistent weight, bullet to bullet. How long is the COAL? Sometimes with a solid bullet it can be better to seat it a little further from the rifling. I think your Tikka allows for longer cartridge lengths than a typical 7mm08? Great velocities and SD. Did you start with a clean barrel? I have seen a few videos where they found that if you shoot monometal bullets after cup and core bullets, they won't group as tight as if you fired them from a clean barrel that was only fouled by monometal bullets. Can't explain it but that's what they found in two different videos. Somehow the two types of bullets foul the barrel differently and it mostly affects the copper groups. It might be worth giving it a try.

I have an AR15 that I have experienced this. Never shot 70 grain TSXs great (~1.5”), but it degraded to probably 4” after mixing in shooting 77 grain match ammo, among a few others. The 77 grain stuff was still sub MOA during this degradation. Barrel cleaning helped tremendously, but it’s irritating that I can’t just shoot anything I want whenever I want.

I've played with the idea of getting a 7mm-08 but I know that my .243 is capable of taking anything that I'll be hunting these days. Even on the outside chance that I go back home to Oregon and hunt Elk I know that the .243 is capable of taking a bull out to around 300 yards with a good bullet because I've done it with 100 grain Nosler Partitions. Granted my 7mm Rem Mag would've let me reach out farther but I personally strive to not take game out past 400 yards and have passed up numerous shots that were outside of my comfort zone due to distance or because if difficult shot placement. If I didnt already have a rifle that is a proven performer a 7mm-08 would probably be what I was buying.

I'd load up 3 more seating about 30-40 thousand deeper. If that doesn't work, change primer if you are set on using that powder - with new brass. But at this point, if your fired cases still easily rechamber, I'd neck size a few and duplicate everything and see what happens. I just got home from the range shooting 3 Tikka stainless 6.5CM, 1 Rem 700 ADL 6.5CM and my latest 280AI. Once fired neck sized brass just produced quarter min in all but the Rem 700 ADL. That may have something to do with the factory trigger set to 3 million pound pull weight but it is shooting MOA. I bought it to build another 6.5CM but it's actually impressing me so far so I may just change the trigger to a 1.5 pound Trigger Tech and see what happens.
