The people here at Barnes don't only pack around rifles - we enjoy our shotguns as well. So Coni Brooks invited some of her friends out for some trigger time and to learn more about proper fit and technique for shotgun shooting.

Don't know how I feel with the instructor having the shotgun pointed at his foot in the beginning off the video...loaded or not. Treat the gun as if it it's ALWAYS loaded.

Nothing wrong with that. It is not a semi automatic or a pump, it is an over-under. The gun is open. Thats the way you do it. Look it up. You can even get at barrel rest/toe pad as an accessory to save your shoe from wear.

Matt C Where do you come from? I try to understand why you would make imperative statements about something that you are not familiar with or understand. Is this part of the culture where you were raised? Like I said to Paul; look it up. This is how it is done and it is not frowned upon. In an open break-action gun the firing pins are physically separated from the chambers. Even if there were ammunition in the chambers there is no way for the gun to fire. The ammunition is as safe as when carrying it in your pocket. An important advantage to break-action guns over pumps and autos is the visual indication that the gun is safe when open, this is especially important when shooting in company of other people. An open break-action is more obviously safe than a bolt action with a chamber flag, without the need for a chamber flag. Regarding laziness, in long practice sessions or competition series of 100 clays + finals 25 any safe advantage to avoid fatigue is taken. Resting the barrels of your 7 lb trap gun on the toe pad makes a difference. Don't insult people calling them lazy for no reason.
