Just think this was a popular sitcom way back in the the when there was only 3-net-works and that was on once a week. Today we have cable-dish-vcr-disk. Meaning people had to wait a week to watch. And how long did they have The Andy Griffin on. Just makes me think what sitcoms that run today that will run like Andy Griffin

I wrote another verse. Blasphemy, I know, and it pales in comparison but how can one not be inspired by the greatest romantic bard of all time, Barney Fife! Oh, there are things of beauty, Of which men like to write, There are twinkling stars, And a moon shining bright. But of the gifts from heaven, None truly can compare, With Juanita, Juanita, She of beauty beyond compare. Juanita, Juanita, Lovely dear Juanita, From your head down to your feet, There is nothing half so sweet, As beautiful Juanita.

This scene, with this poem, probably came across as very ridiculous and exaggerated, at the time. Now, with so much that has changed in the direction of abuse and violence and harsh attitudes, his poem comes across as sweet and nostalgic. He's reading a poem which he has written especially for this lady. Who does this anymore? It is interesting, to compare what must have been the typical audience reaction back in the 1960s, to emotions arising upon hearing this in the second decade of the 2000s. He now seems not so much silly and ridiculous, as kind of caring and attentive. This is my reaction, to this scene. Thank you for posting this video.

Poetic license. He subtracts the last syllable with the ‘a’, emphasizes & elongates the ‘nit’ (neet) so he can rhyme it with feet, sweet. I remember many many moons ago shipmates writing poor but honest poems like that to their gals at home.
@basilmarasco19753 жыл бұрын
@@ldl9280 Interesting. But I never thought I'd learn anything artistic from Barney Fyfe. But, come to think of it, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that, in fact, Barney originated the practice of "poetic license"!
