It looks like all the weight on the horizontal beam is resting on the 1/2” or 5/8” bolt going through the bracket. Is that sufficient to support the weight being put on that beam?

It should be housed into post 3/4 of an inch

@@jonsmith9708 That’s what I was thinking, so the weight rests on the post and not the bolt.

Thanks for the question, the beam isn't only supported by the bolts, there are 2 - 1/4" steel T plates, one on either side of the Tie beam. I have had multiple engineers review the design, and all have found it to be more than sufficient to hold the weight. Including several engineers who have purchased the plans and built our barns as designed.

A video so real you need ear protection to listen to it.

Thanks Aaron for your great work...This video is inspiring, but in order to assess my own ability to accomplish a building like this another, more detailed, video would be more helpful if it was: 1. instructional: show the steps/ the equipment/ the labor, discuss various options for equipment and labor. Add information about costs of options being considered. Discuss planning considerations. Show final end product. 2. Conducive to learning; in a learning video we don't need any background music, but we do need clear voice sound of what is occurring or being discussed in the video shot (both of the narrator and the person speaking in the field). We need commentary during the shooting or added after to help us process what we are seeing. I think viewers considering doing this build want to gain self confidence that they can be successful. To be successful they will need to understand the steps, assess their skills, build skills or bridge gaps in their skillsets, make decisions about methods they will employ.

We have lots of content just like that on our channel, and will have more coming soon. Thanks for the tip!

You know simple mortise and tenon joinery is cheaper then the brackets .One beam to post joint takes 35 minutes.Of course use the brackets if that’s the look your going for I like it ok, I guess I would like to see your design s in mortise & tenon.I love your design s keep up the good work

I love mortise and tenon joinery. The problem these designs solves is the fact that most people don't want to take the time to learn a new skill. Also their is a cost factor, steel plate joinery allows the use of smaller timbers than a typical mortise and tenon frame, this translates to large cost savings on timbers. My goal is to see more timber framed buildings compete with conventional construction. This design has accomplished that goal for multiple people all over the US, Canada, and Europe.
