I guess I've listened to the whole album now and it's only made me want to get my physical copy in my hands even more. Fantastic album, guys! It's all so varied and interesting, from powerful to hauntingly beautiful. I reaffirms why Baroness has been one of my favourite bands since a friend of mine introduced me in 2009 or 2010. It's so great to have new music from you again!

I love this band ❤ Thank you for your music, always feels like home - thay way I feel and think drawn into a sonical landscape. This riff is really something, with the bass really giving it power. ​@@foxyfoxtrot4233agreed - imo, all of their albums have had crap production for the majority of the songs. Very frustrating when you know there's a good tune buried under a crap mix. Makes seeing them live all the more important as it does the songs justice. Having said that, the production on this album is a bit better. And I don't care if the previous albums were mixed/produced that way on purpose, as an artistic choice, blah blah blah - enough people have noticed it over the years and don't like it, but the albums still sell and here we still are listening, so obviously we suffer through it 😄 Just glad they altered the production on STONE enough to make it more palatable on the ears 🤘

By far the best song on the album and I am a huge Baroness fan. But omg the snare drum is way too loud on most all the mixes on Stone. I am not sure how this happened or maybe Sebastian Thomson ( who is fabulous) got extra money to boost the pop of the snare? The drum mix is good maybe a touch light on cymbals, but that whap whap is too much on most of the songs. Live they sound great. To be fair the loud snare helps drive the groove on this track, but like on Bloom? kinda overpowering.

I know in this day and age it’s frowned upon to criticise pretty much anything and people want “positive vibes only”. But I just listened to this album and it’s a jumbled mess. It has its moments, but on the whole there’s nothing about it that’s particularly memorable and it sounds like you spent most of your time messing around with effects peddles and what sound is going to go where and trying to sound “progressive”, instead of actually writing decent memorable songs. When the album ended I thought “what, is that it”? For the most part I found it boring and unmemorable, with a few a parts that I thought were alright. I have no strong desire to listen to it again.

@@eh2643Because, as I said. There’s nothing about it that makes me want to listen to it. In fact, I’ve already heard the main big tracks from it a few times before I even listened to the whole thing and I was completely underwhelmed by them. But I was willing to listen to the album as a whole and give it a chance. I have listened to it end to end twice now and I like it even less than I did the first time. Red, blue, yellow and Green are the best albums. Everything since then has been on a steady downward trajectory. This album just sounds like an overindulgent jumbled mess of various influences with no real consistent thread through the songs. The quiet parts are dull and boring. The “heavy” parts sound sanitised and neutered. The dual vocals all the time are kind of annoying, even though they’ve always done that. But with one of the vocals now being female, it’s a lot more obvious. Where as on past albums it’s barely noticeable. Baizley also uses very similar vocal melodies all the time, to the point where it’s just getting irritating now. For instance, the vocals on magnolia sound just like steal that sleeps the eye. The constant changes in guitar sound and the really excessive use of effect pedals is also irritating. There’s like 4 or 5 changes in guitar sound in a single song on some of these tracks. This can be evidenced by looking at their effects when playing live. It’s just ridiculous. Like I said. It’s overindulgent. Too much time spent pissing about with pedals and deciding which effects go where instead just writing good memorable songs. I couldn’t really give a shit how “progressive” it is, because I personally think that red and blue are more progressive than this album. Those albums had a rawness and an edge to them, where you could viscerally feel this heavy band trying to do something different and it really came across in the music. Now it sounds like they’ve disappeared up their own arses and they’re making sanitised “heavy” music for normies. This is the album that will make me stop paying attention to them. Just like hushed and grim made me stop paying attention to mastodon, because it’s a truly awful, boring as hell album. It seems the more successful bands get, the shittier the music becomes.
