I tried to give this a proper listen at work , but immediately stopped it when I heard the spoken word portion. It was a complete “WTF” moment and warranted an uninterrupted, at home listen. I dig it. Little bit different take than the comments I've parsed, though: I'm hearing a lot of 1980's thrash in the verses, with that gigantic Southern Melodic Sludge on the chorus. Like 1985 Megadeth meets 2015 Mastodon. It's not pastiche, though- the result is like a fully realized prog version of what a lot of early 2000's Post Hardcore bands were aiming at. That is- wholly unique, brutally heavy and beautifully harmonized music that defies all playlist attempts. I know, I know, real hot take, here, but this is why I'm a fan of Baroness- superiority through thoughtful savagery.

I think I'm in the minority thinking that Gold & Grey's production style was kind of cool and weird and different. It was I think meant to sound like broken electronics. That album is one of their most experimental, and I think people will look back on it better in the future. It feels like a psychedelic dream from start to finish, telling a strange abstract story that doesn't make any sense. And the weird production kind of fits aesthetically, for me.
