On departing FXE, you pointed out that you were 'crabbing' to stay on centerline. Are there numerous reasons for that?
@troymccarty64343 жыл бұрын
Traffic patterns have planes going downwind (opposite direction). You don’t want to drift into their ‘lane’. Some airports will have skydivers with designated landing areas; you don’t want to drift into their space. Taxiways may be used by helicopters for take-off and landing…so you don’t want to drift into their ‘lanes’. At towered airports, they may say ‘fly runway heading’, which means you fly the heading…and don’t correct for drift. Always feels wrong to me not to correct for drift…
Here is my one stupid question of the day! When asking air control your run up info can you ask for them to say it slow and not 100 m/hr so you get it right the first time so there is no miss communication? Or is that too annoying? ...... ok that's 2 but I am using up tommorrow's question!!!
@BaronPilot Жыл бұрын
You can ask them and they will. It’s a bad habit many of us in aviation pick up. Speaking faster in a crowded radio frequency. You will also find that as you learn what to expect it becomes much easier to understand what they are saying.

@edwardmurray68533 жыл бұрын
That wasn’t a bad landing considering. I think adding power saved you from a bigger smash the second time around. It was a good choice to land with approach flaps; and I the problem was your approach speed over the numbers was a lot faster than it should’ve been even for approach flaps setting. At least that’s what it looked like on the video.

Tom, I recently started my instrument training…. The level of control you have to have with maintaining airspeed in climbs, descent, and level flight is so much more than for visual conditions. The knowledge you have to have for shooting approaches.. and adherence to the approaches. You get to be very busy. I can’t imagine being in instrument meteorological conditions without significant training under your belt first.
