As someone who lives in the remote NT I can tell you the amount of break downs I see of blokes with 100+k four wheel drives who don't know how to drive them is increasing every year. While I really enjoy most of the four wheel drive channels they are promoting a more and more unrealistic approach to remote travel. The boys at 4WD 24/7 are probably the worst as they encourage hardcore off roading in remote areas but don't have to pay for their repairs or rescue. It's a different world out here, not a play ground for rich kids. The most important message we tell people who visit here is "It's not about you breaking down, it's about the people who have to come and get you if you do". 100% same as those all4 adventure mob dragging 7m trailers through the Frenchmans track and ripped all the banks and trees down. These types come up here to cape york and destroy our areas and then it gets shut down by the TOs. Sick of it. 3k recovery from gunshot and they think their racq subscription means anything up here, rude shock when the bill comes and a week's wait for pick up

Well said I surveyed all over Nth of Pt Augusta to both Tiwi Is, Bickerton Is, Millingimbi, Elco Is, all over central Australia in most weather, criss crossed Arnhern Land, 50% back roads and station access tracks, dodgy black soil plains... bogged plenty of times.... 90kkm pa.... out West past Warburton WA, to Patjarr, from Arnhern Land se along the coast to Qld. Also, plenty of central oz desert tracks, and followed the railway maintenance 'tracks' from job to job many times. Had permits to travel all over Arhern Land and the Pit Lands. Let me just say, we travelled plenty of tracks no one uses very often, and when we broke down, we fixed the car (2x GUs + 2x 80series). Tip, dont break your car - it can be a giant hassle, and recovery and repairs can rake a lot of time. Eg, a brand new GU engine let go, flat bed to Alice, then hired another 80series for 1month before a new engine was fitted under warranty. 1month of no trailer = 8-900km 12hr days, day trippping in and out of Alice to get some work done. Not much fun at all. We rarely took two vehicles, so, the motto was, who ever was driving when we got bogged, digs us out. Motto - dont get stuck. We carried 3m long reinforced steel mesh strips for debogging. Some days, these were used every 3kms ! But... it could be worse. An American made vehicle is full of useless electronic gizmos that will rattle and break, unrepairable in the bush, and potentially ruin your day. Beware of black soil plain and rain ! Some colleagues of mine bogged a 4x4 and a truck on a bsp just before the wet, and it had to stay there for 6months.

What’s the point of 1000hp if land cruiser diffs can barely handle stock 1vd power. There’s a bloke with a silver 79 with a Barra that makes 500-600hp and he converted it to a leafy patrol rear diff (the strongest ones made for the patrol) and he still broke it. So with nearly double the power and a diff half as strong this thing is going to be useless.

Why wouldnt he use a ford 9" and change diff gears to suit... Or a custom diff considering the amount he would of spent just rebuilding and forging that barra id say 30k minimum. They have patrols in the middle east pulling 3000hp i think there must be a workaround...
