The front sight has a hole through it. I put a pearl headed straight pin in it for a front sight, really helps my old eyes. I am 76 still shooting. Love the Barra 1866!!

I have this one. Good shooter. I carved a plug out of a soft plastic and plugged the bb side to facilitate pellet just dropping in for loading. Same gun for youngsters only takes one pump.

Nice! Looks like a Henry, even has an octagonal barrel! Glad to see a review first, I think I saw it at the local Wallyworld!

About a year ago I was looking into one of these and found they have the same model but in a single pump like a Daisy Red Ryder. Im a backyard shooter and have neighbors on all sides so I figured a quieter single pump would be good. I bought one and was immediately disappointed. The pump lever isn’t lined up well and always catches when pumped. The pellet loading is a huge problem for me personally. I dropped a pellet into the BB port like you. The worst part is the power. When shooting pellets (which is why I bought it), at 30 feet the pellet arcs and barely makes it to the target. Im not exaggerating. It’s so slow I can watch the pellet leave the barrel and instantly start dropping. I shot it twice and put it back in the box never to be shot again.

the daisy engineers were very smart they made a special rifling that would allow shooting b-bs and not affect the rifle barrels my older 880s are smooth bore and they are very accruate with b-bs and pellets. i like the concept of the 1866 from my experience with one i found after a couple of weeks shooting it which was fine but using the safety hammer back and forth i noticed it feeling too easy from on safety to off position it didnt have that detent feel to it i took the reciever off and noticed the satety was putting a groove on the left inside receiver and noticed how cheap the reciever and safety design was. the reciever is made of real cheap plastic not the high impact plastic that daisy uses. and yes the 1866 and the umarex pump guns are all from the famous 880.

The Daisy engineers knew exactly what they were doing, that's for sure. The 880 has been around since 1972 and it still sells like crazy. And you're right, I've read about the special flat/shallow rifling the 880 uses which is safe for BB use. I've shot many tens of thousands of BB's through my 880's over the years and the rifling is still good. I did buy this Barra 1866 about two years ago but like you said the plastic is very cheap, toy-like plastic and I don't like that at all, but it does shoot pretty good except for the very heavy trigger. I also hate that you can't mount an optic on that rifle. I ended up shooting that rifle for a week or so then went back to my 880. The Barra sits in the closet not being used which is a shame, but when you have an 880 you realize the 880 is far superior and much more fun to use.

@@trevorjameson3213 seems like we both have the same passion about the 880 the 880 is such a great air gun that it gets over looked.. i have many older air guns that always fun but my collection of the older daisy 880s are my favorite to shoot with that famous monte carlo stock the famous pumping handle the great trigger pull which feels like first stage its right there. its just a cool pellet gun hands down a true winner. i will go someday to the daisy museam in rogers arkanas.

It's really a solid air rifle for the price, but that loading breach is horrible. I have a trick with it I will have to show in a video at some point. Not sure if I did in my old video or not. But I do like the feel of it and it's an accurate plinker!

We may have to get you & Tim to do a challenge on his Trick Shot Thursday segment since I think he has a Barra. Maybe frangible BBs may not harm the barrel? Nice shooting.

The way I load it is tilt left and muzzle down a little. Hold pellet by the skirt and get pellet as close as you can to tray and drop it. Mine shooting over 700 fps just dont remember exactly. Ive had mine apart a couple times. They have the skinny straw barrel like the 880's do

I have this same gun and love it ! It's pushing just over 800 fps with the Crosman destroyers and it will print a 5 shot group under a nickel at 15 yards !! The one thing I don't get is everyone says to store a pumper with two or three pumps in the gun to keep the seals good in the gun ! But a lot of guns have to be cocked in order to pump them ! So if you live the gun cocked won't that hurt the hammer spring ????
@joedokes8641
@joedokes8641 Жыл бұрын
I store all of my pumpers with two pumps , at least the ones that can do this . Tried with the 880's but doesn't seem feasible since they need to be cocked to hold air .

@@joedokes8641 that's what I mean you have to cock the 880 to pump it up so I wonder if leaving it cocked will hurt the hammer spring ! ?

@@timmy4539 daisy engineers says not to store pumped up i never do on mine but i do 2 pumps on my sheridans, benjamins,and crosmans. daisy 880s are made differently than other air guns. daisy engineers use a very simple and thought out design i am very impressed with what they have done.

@@timmy4539 I imagine it would sort of like leaving a springer cocked all the time? A child hood and me would go around and around about leaving live rounds in a magazine . He said it wouldn't hurt anything but I never did this . Maybe powder burners have higher end springs?
@trevorjameson3213
@trevorjameson3213 Жыл бұрын
@@joedokes8641 The best way to store a Daisy 880 is to cock it, but do not pump it afterward. This keeps the exhaust valve closed, keeping pressure off the exhaust valve spring. Don't pump it and leave it stored though, that's not necessary or recommended for an 880, the valve body and seals are not designed the same way as other pumpers like a Crosman or Benjamin. Completely different design concept.
