Morning Andy I have the Umarex Winchester shell ejecting replica and it’s great, it’s bb but I get round the ricochet problem by using excite copper coated lead bb’s. It’s very accurate even though it’s a smoothbore and was £100 cheaper than the Barra, ok it doesn’t have an octagonal barrel and you can’t change calibres but it’s a cheaper alternative for people for pretty much the same experience. I also have the Remington Cowboy 1875 pistol which uses bb’s and pellets for the full cowboy experience 😁

By far the most intriguing rifle reviewed so far this year. Rifled (tick), Hexagonal barrel (tick). Interchangeavble barrels (not needed but nice thought (tick). Price (half tick). Paint finish (half tick). Power (x). I know what you mean about the hexagonal barrel. When I bought my Henry rimfire underlever I just had to have the hexagonal barrel. I was almost reaching for my wallet on this, but the power level is a little weak. O.k, it;s a plinker, but 6ft/lbs would jhave sold it to me. It would have been nice to see it paper pinching, even if it is a plinker.

Your tick is misplaced as is the reviewer’s miscounted barrel sides. It’s not hexagonal. The barrel has 8 sides. Its octagonal.

A little tip. I noticed that you lower the rifle every time that you cock the lever. I have a Marlin 1894 and when I shoot I keep the gun shouldered and target sighted when actuating the lever. I find this results in faster target acquisition for follow up shots (I basically keep it on target at all times until reloading) and less work for my arms. That being said I love this 1866 replica and even with the $250 price tag here in the US I NEED one of these. Thanks for the the great informative video!!!
@brianw34156 ай бұрын
If you are shooting from a stationary position, just lay down a cheap tarp for the shell casings to fall on. You can find the shells easy then or just lift the tarp to poor the shells into a bucket or onto a table. A large beach towel will also work nicely for catching brass.

Great video Andy, thanks for posting. Initially an octagon barrel was standard on the 1866 models, although later round barrels were offered in both rifle and carbine versions. Although superseded by the Model 1873 and subsequent Winchester models, the Model 1866 was sufficiently popular to remain in the Winchester line through 1898.

Oliver Winchester purchased Volcanic arms where Benjamin Henry was a gunsmith designer. Winchester contracted with Henry to make the Henry rifle and obtained the patent. After a fall out and court case, Winchester gave Henry the factory but he held the rights. Winchester bought a new factory and his chief designer was Nelson King. King created the side load, known as the King gate. Because Winchester (a shirt manufacturer) was relatively unknown, they advertised the ‘66’ as the improved Henry, which people were very familiar with. The 1873 model was sold as Winchester.
