About two minutes in I forgot I was watching a cocktail video and that's the exact reason why I instantly click every time I see a new DS video. I absolutely love them.

Your channel is soooo helpful dude! I just finished up a barrel aged old fashion and I'm sold on barrel aging now! I noticed that the "Angel Share" was pretty substantial. What do you recommend for topping off the barrel for the Black Rider every week? Would you 50/50 mescal and brandy or just do one? I have a 5 L barrel so I'll be adding about 750ml over the aging process! Thanks man. As a Burroughs, Kerouac and Waits fan Im excited to make this as my next aged cocktail!!

I've bought the barrel and am going to try this recipe. Could you give me sources for those great bottles you use to store the cocktail? Thanks!
@DistinguishedSpirits4 жыл бұрын
The bottle in this video was from a bottle of Aberlour Scotch that I finished, pulled the label off, put my label on and filled with this drink. So, when you finish a bottle of something, maybe the brandy or mezal you use for this drink, just hang on to the bottle, soak and peel the label off, put my label on and use it to store the aged cocktail.

Distinguished Spirits good idea! I guess I just need to drink more! Fantastic videos. I crushed through all of them last night. I have the next 6 months of aging planned haha.
@DistinguishedSpirits4 жыл бұрын
Good. I'd start with any spirits you want to age. Do those first, then move to cocktails.

I'm trying to barrel age some bourbon and cocktails this summer. How many times can you reuse a fresh oak barrel?
@DistinguishedSpirits5 жыл бұрын
Quite a few times. At least 7-10. Maybe more times if you want to age each one a little longer. It just have diminishing return.

How long did you age the Islay for? How'd it change it? *Rubs chin*
@DistinguishedSpirits5 жыл бұрын
Siraphon it’s actually pretty good. However, I aged it too early in the barrel’s life. I should’ve waited until near the end, as Scotch is aged in real life. Ideally, I’d say you want to age bourbon first, rum second, tequila third, cocktails, then scotch. But anyway, the scotch was young, probably just 3 years, which for scotch is the minimum, and it drank pretty raw. So aging it again at home really helped smooth out a lot of the rough patches in the dram.
