how to heat a garage with a wood stove with out the danger of fire

What a very good idea. What I would suggest is that you extend the air inlet side inside the garage down toward the floor so you're sucking up the coldest air in the garage. Also you definitely want to put a screen over the inlet so that whatever gets sucked in there doesn't come flying back out the other side on fire. Like leaves or a moth or whatever

@@ronstickle4694 well I would have both hot and cold vented close to the floor. I would probably put a slight turn away from your warm air pipe. Maybe 30 degrees from the warm which would still give you good draw from the room. My idea on the warm is that warm air rises so theoretically that you would want it as close to the floor as you get it. As you mentioned you don’t want to heat the rafters. In the future depending on the volume of heat you are pushing you could run a pipe up against the wall with vents in it. Just saying.

My friend made something like this without fan and heats entire house with 2 floors. The suction pipe is at the lowest part of the furnace, and the outlet pipe is at the highest part (similiar as yours, just the suction pipe is outside). The furnace is built right next to the house, and there is a pipe system that branches and leads to all the rooms in the house. There are no fans, but the heat naturally passes through the pipes and heats up all the rooms very quickly (even when it's very cold outside). The stove is lit every 6-8 hours, and it heats up all night and the fire is still smoldering in the morning.

A lot of good thoughts in that design. It occurs to me that if it proves out you might try to keep some of the heat that is lost through the barrel walls. Either surround it in stone or layer on some kind of insulation. It's great keeping the mess and danger out of the work space.

That is correct, your steel heat exchanger inside firebox will be positive pressure. You should have no issues with leakage/ carbon monoxide entering as long at you don’t lose power to fan

Yes seal ceiling and fan to knock down trapped heat I used old chicken house insulation 1and5/8 thick 4x23 for around 28 dollars on market place and that worked great for me o and 72 cases of caulk get air tight and if need be crack a window depending on I need fresh air so I need as insulated and caulked as I can get but I want to choose where and when I choose to let some inside

Great innovation! I'm subscribed. What were the major drawbacks from your barrel in a barrel setup? Did the inner barrel ever burn through? That's the one I plan to replicate, with a few minor improvements.
@ronstickle46944 жыл бұрын
hi the biggest drawback is heat loss to the outside air! i never used it long enough to ever burn out the inside barrel i have new plans for a better design and have not started it yet. I hope you film your design and post and let me know! thanks for the question!

I like your idea, but any reason why you prefer this method over a burn barrel inside a heat exchanger? Or what are your thoughts on the exhaust going into the garage but encased in mud. Last thought, small enclosure for barrel in garage but access for it is outside. Sorry I live in Florida and the subject is fascinating. I'm from the north but never dabbled in wood burning
@ronstickle46945 жыл бұрын
thanks for your comment! This is an experiment on going..I try to come up with new ideas not done before here with a ton of the same content ..As i said in the vid i don't want an active fire inside because of safety reasons! I know it is a huge wast of heat and had a new idea of cutting a round hole in the in the building putting the stove in backwards into the pole barn so most of it stick into the building but feed the fire from outside so the fire end is not inside. I just don't want to do it yet because i don't want to cut a hole in it as of yet. If i spent a lot of time in there i would do it!
@toddtyler43304 жыл бұрын
Hey great idea I made one and works well. My question is are you circulating hot air in the shop with any fans or just naturally with the intake. I find it’s very warm where heat comes in but not throughout the garage. Fans seem to cool off the air before it moves around.
@ronstickle46944 жыл бұрын
i had the same findings and then preheated the pole barn first with a diesel salamander blast heater all the objects in there would warm up and pull less heat away from the air when i heat with fire. I f it is really cold out a may run the salamander intermittently for a quick boost!

@gabbermaikel6 жыл бұрын
you might have tought about this, but why not put the burning unit inside a water filled chamber? Or coolant because it is outside and you dont want it to freeze when the heater is off. That way you could use some central heating radiators inside your shop and make it much more efficient.

i did think of it and saw a few ideas maybe i will do one like that sometime..Thanks for the comments!

If you used insulated (chimney pipe) instead of the flexible dryer hose, it'd be much more efficient. Plugging up the holes around the heat tubes & flange would also help.

I have an even better idea just wear a jacket. or if you insist on having a heater. i have the best most efficient idea ever and it doesn't take electricity. Cut a hole in your wall stick the stove into the hole backwards so the fire opening is out side. seal up the wall high temp silicone you can figure it out. then you get most of the heat without the risk of the flame.
@Mike-su8si Жыл бұрын
