Laura & Mallory's interpretation has Zoe breaking down by the end of the song while Barret's Zoe is in the middle of breaking down and becomes a little resolute by the end of it. I love theater,,

it’s funny because the way barrett sings it is the way the song is written, there’s a comma before the last tonight showing that she is a little resolute by the end

I actually really like the idea of Barrett as Zoe. She does give it her own little spin. She gives it a more angry tone. Barrett's sounds a bit more like she's finally letting go of the pain and sorrow that Connor left her with. Yes the other Zoe's did/do that too. But hers (especially in the second half of the song) sounds more like she's finally letting go and basically saying to Connor "you broke me. You broke them. Why would you hurt them more? How could you?" Or something of that sort. Just my sharing my thoughts i guess.

If she wants to play more adult characters that's on her to do that but to say she is too old is just plain wrong. Age isn't really important in Broadway. It's not the age it's how old you look because if someone who is 18 somehow looks like they are in their late 20s unless they have the most brilliant voice for the character they are gonna cast someone who looks or can look much younger for younger roles.

i think barrett has grown out of her high schooler roles, i could never see her as zoë especially with the realistic portrayal that mallory offers now. but i totally see how they saw her as a good option for zoë back when they were still doing workshops and table reads because she looked a LOT younger. fantastic rendition though!

I think Barrett's rock sound is really effective at communicating the angst Zoe feels in this song (something Barrett plays well in general). Neither Laura nor Mallory have that sound, and I thought it was great to really hear that expressed at a new level in this version. BUT as satisfying as it is to see Zoe full emo, I think I like the character a little sweeter. Mallory is my favourite Zoe! Her version of this song is SO damn good.

Yeah, there was that thing recently where she sang songs from her dream roles, and you could definately tell her voice was starting to wear, which is a shame because she's so unbelievably talented, she just needs a break. I'm worried that if she doesn't give herself a break she's going to end up same as Idina (no shade though, they're both amazing, just pushing themselves too hard)

Lol I’m 3 months behind 😂 I prefer Barret 100% . Granted , I’m so biased 😂. And I know she has slips but I love how raw her performances are and I like that they’re not perfect , they don’t have to be . I felt a more intense and more angry version of Zoe in her performance and adored it ☺️
