I recently bought a cheap rope from Amazon. I don’t have a clue how to use and never seen one till the other day visiting friends in Oklahoma. I really enjoyed roping the dummy and so I bought myself one. I now have the thing so twisted right out of the package that I’m feeling like just burning it. They had their ropes working so good and I just can’t figure it out😂 but I’m definitely not a cowboy I just really enjoyed doing it and want to try now.

I did this with my boys new ropes, I feel like they still need to be stretched again though. They came coiled so tightly in such a small box there is a lot of spring to them still. Hopefully after a few more times they will be good to go! Love the intro by the way!

@davidrauh5646

I prefer to stretch my rope on a post or tree stump so the loop isn't squeezed into a kink at the hondo. I've found that the stretch and let relax for a day has become more important to rope longevity as rope technology has increased. I had a couple new Cactus core ropes work great right off the rack but they were almost useless a week later when I used them at a second roping. My last one I stretched it and roped a couple steers then put it away and it's held up much better.
@BarrettHouser
@BarrettHouser 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I always think that letting them rest a day or so will make them last a lot longer. The core ropes don’t usually hold up in the summer as well. I only use them in the winter.

I break mine in about the same way stretch it on the trailer ball run a few steers with it to put some life on it burn it a bit because that's what keeps the rope from sliding ive been told practicing ill use old medium fuzzed ropes for beginners id use a 3 strand rope and have a advanced roper break it in some for you just for safety a brand new rope sometimes will run and might put yourself in danger
@steveaustin6786

Just some other things I've been taught and never use a brand new rope for dummy practice it might put some un wanted kinks in it
@BarrettHouser

Yes for sure. I only use old ropes that I am done with for the dummy.

I usually rope with them first at the house to get them broke in or if it is brand new at a roping I stretch it with a horse and rope the dummy for a little while

Hey There. Thank you so much for all your help. Because of you, I bought my first rope from your rope reviews. And I just bought a roping dummy. But I have a really dumb question, please don’t laugh. Why does everyone put those “head/horn wraps” on a dummy…….? Does the rope wear down the dummy, or wear out the rope faster. Thanks for any help.

Hmm, interesting. Sometimes they kink because of how you swing. It is hard to give advice without seeing or feeling it. Lay it out for a few days on the floor in big coils and see if that helps. Thanks for watching!

Any rope will do for a beginner. Tame horse is a loose word. You probably need a well trained horse that you can rope off of. Find a reputable trainer in your area and ask them.
