Күн бұрын

The restoration of a lifetime! The incredible story of how Barrett-Jackson CEO and Chairman ‪@CraigJacksonCollection‬ and an elite team of automotive restoration specialists set out to restore the rarest and most desirable Shelby Mustang of all time, the 1968 EXP 500 Green Hornet. The Green Hornet's provenance of being a double prototype puts it into a unique category and represents a rolling history of what was happening within Ford and Shelby American in the heyday of the American muscle car era. The performance DNA of all modern Mustangs and Shelbys leads back to this very car, making this 1968 Ford Mustang Notchback Coupe - as Carroll Shelby once said - "the one and only Green Hornet."
Special thanks to ‪@ford‬ archives and ‪@ShelbyAmericanInc‬.
Brought to you by ‪@Pennzoil‬.

I only wish my good friend, Mr. John Chun, Shelby's original designer from the 60's could have seen this before he passed on July 6, 2013. He told a lot of stories about the things he'd worked on with this car, being both a mechanical, and design engineer - then going to Chrysler to design the Daytona Charger and Superbird mods, after Shelby told Ford to get lost in 1969!!

@@DJ_Driven according to John Chun, Ford was trying to strong-arm Shelby into giving up all info about the mods they were doing, so Ford could go ahead and take Shelby right out of the picture. Basically, Shelby told Ford to screw himself, and disappeared to Africa for 14 years.

@FunkyGOB
@FunkyGOB 3 жыл бұрын
The fastbacks were the cars everybody wanted but the coupes were the most affordable thus they were the major bulk of Mustang sales. If it hadn't been for the coupes, the Mustang would've been scratched shortly after its debut. Even the 1st gen Camaro was made as a xerox copy of the notchback coupe because it was the hot selling model. Of course now the fastbacks are deemed more valuable because there are tons of coupes out there yet fewer drop tops and fastbacks hence making them harder to find. The opposite is applied to the fox body models though. You can pick up a halfway decent hatchback/fastback GT for about half of what you'll pay for the notchback LX. Supply and demand.

Ive been in love with this car since i read about it in a Mustang book back in the early 2000s. So glad it has been found and taken back to its original condition. Most important is that it is in the hands of someone that truly appreciates what it is. Im a Chevy guy but nobody can deny the innovation and genius of Shelby and his team of engineers. From the 427 Cobra to the GT40 to the G.T. 350 to the Viper to the Series 1, Shelby always found a way to leave his mark and to leave us in awe. Ford would've been so far ahead of the curve if they had mass produced these back in 68. Crazy how it's taken over 50 years for all of this technology to finally come to fruition on a Mustang. Good to see The Green Hornet alive and better than ever!

This just the kind of thing I love to watch, all of it, the research, the attention to detail, the historic aspect. And of course the man himself doing it for the history but also to DRIVE! Ripping it up, why do it at all if you're not going to treat it like the car it was designed to be. And that color, man, I do love green and that is one cool green. Actually I'm a NY Jets fan and their new green helmets are almost the exact same color, it's that same unique shade of green, or very close. What a great documentary, I'm so happy to have seen this. Cheers to all those brilliant guys that did all those things, it's like a dream team of talent. Well done.

Let's not forget that Chrysler and American Motors both courted Fuel Injection in the late 1950's! That system was the Bendix Electrojector and was relatively successful in that, at least in concept - it did work. Out on the street, not so much. However there are a few people out there who have upgraded the system to use modern electronic components, add RF shielding to the "brain Box" and modern fuel injectors to find that the system was workable, but simply too far ahead of technology to work 100%. Most people who bought them commented how the cars ran fine during fair weather, but it was cold weather, moist weather and Neon signs that caused the system to malfunction. I've NEVER heard of the Con Elec system before. Looks like I've got some research to do.

It's great how they get a Nickname, GM-Holden Engineering Mechanics that worked on the Three LJ GTR V8 Torana Prototypes in April 1972, gave the Three GTR's the nicknames of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, as one of them was Ugly on Tyres. The Orange one got it's second nickname when it went out to Harry Firth's Holden Dealer Team HQ, the Race Team for Holden when Larry Perkins the HDT Mechanic seen the Lockwood Locks on the Bonnet Pins and he called it the Lockwood Special and the name Stuck.

Thank you team Jackson- Barrett and god bless these Shelby cobras are so important. Kind of like lucy maid Montgomery never recognized until well after her death. The same with Georgia pledge never truly valued by group of seven and her art and building name devalued. East coast green gables was torn down that’s why nothing gets to be of any age it’s not respected by the throw away generation and is disrespected by those who have no insights and no attachment.

I never knew the people who own Barrett Jackson were actual car people. Thought they were just rich guys making money off of our hobby. This is cool to see and know.

This really shows what Americans could do back when it created some of the most iconic vehicles the world has ever seen. Now all we get are Toyota look-alikes with plastic bodies and computerized systems that will never be what these were! Today's cars and trucks are just junk looking for a scrapyard.

How can we have dedicated people to come together for a common goal. If we can do it for a special car why can't we do it for the human race? This gives me hope as a Ford guy & American.
