As the story in Game of Shadows goes, Bonds got tired of all the adulation lesser players McGwire and Sosa were receiving, so he had a "hold my beer" moment, took the PED's like those guys were, and then easily surpassed their home run feats. And from there on out, he repeatedly obliterated the intentional walk record because nearly all pitchers thereafter refused to challenge him when first base was open and the lead was on the line. It's too bad PED use was so rampant in baseball, but it's kind of amusing to think a guy who already was one of the 20 greatest players of all time was able to reassert himself as the game's best, by a huge margin, when he evened the playing field for himself. The other guys one PED's were able to make themselves equally good all-around hitters as Bonds, but when Bonds joined them in the PED arms race, it was all over, and Barry was easily alone on top.

only thing he cheated was having bat speed of a college player.

beautiful swing. I miss Big Mac and Bonds smashing tape measure shots. Steroids aren't good but man baseball was waaaay more exciting with them.

@timewing46117 жыл бұрын
samxyx that’s what I’m saying, baseball was a hell of a lot more interesting during this time. They should just allow steroids back in all sports

Roids wouldn't guarantee another Barry Bonds. I don't know of any substance that can increase reflexes. If there is such a substance, fighter pilots and troops in combat would have it as a diet supplement. If Bonds had not been issued all of the intentional walks during his assault on Mr. Aaron's record his numbers would have been incredible.

Roids don't make a swing that sweet.

That one in NY was just awesome. Damon hit one up there in that WS that time too no? Not that far though I don;t think.

The only home run that I saw that compared with Bonds blast in the old Yankee Stadium was the blast by George Brett in the 1980 ALCS.

Does anyone remember a hitter like this guy? His at bats were must watch T.V. The fast swing, the ball jumping from the bat, at a time when Pitchers would barely pitch to him. Yes - he was foolish enough to take steriods and he has paid a massive price. But time has come now to get him into the hall of fame! He was truly a one of a kind player

The giants made that stadium for Barry Bonds. Glad I watched baseball during the best era...Bonds, Sosa, Griffrey, and McGwire slug-fest.

I picture bonds, after a game going home to his mansion, sitting on a nice leather couch, maybe prop his feet up, light a Cuban cigar, maybe bask in the glory of all his homers.
