The game used to be so much fun. That breaking ball nearly broke Bonds' knees, and then a heater at his ribs, followed by turning on a 99mph fastball inside the plate. Just an amazing at-bat.

I heard Gagne made the deal on the proviso he was allowed to throw one off speed in the at-bat. That's why you see him shake the catcher off multiple times later in the at-bat. Barry knew before anybody else about the media spin and how they made up stories and he hated it. That's why he was a prick to the media. Just like Marshawn when he started doing the, "I'm here because I don't want to get fined", they knew the spin that these media personalities made up. Now they get exposed more often because of social media and don't have control as they used to anymore (ESPN starting to crumble and die - LOL). Now, if we can just remove voting for media in the HOF it would be icing on the cake.

Can you blame him? I sure don’t. The media love to anoint themselves as the conduit between the players and the fans as if the stupid and irrelevant bullshit they ask and talk about is what we’re begging to know about. I’m not convinced it really is. What’s worse is they also take it upon themselves to “hold players accountable”. That’s pretty fucking rich, and, you’d have to have a massive ego yourself to even think like that. Meanwhile, who’s holding THEM accountable?

I think the only difference in their retelling of this at bat was the “mutual agreement” upon one offspeed pitch. Gagne’s first 3 pitches could not be any more perfect. Regardless, they both knew fastball was coming for the last few pitches. I personally believe Barry’s recollection of the at bat.

@@AstroWrLd44 If you see Gagné’s recent recollection of this AB on Momentum, the deal was, Gagné could only throw one off-speed the entire AB. He used it on the curveball that was just a hair outside. Gagné’s Vulcan changeup was one of the best ever. For Bonds to insist on that qualifier doesn’t make it that amazing since he was sitting fastball the entire time. Consider the 2017 Houston Astros. Knowing what’s coming gives the batter a huge advantage. I get that Gagné still agreed to the terms, but not being able to use his full arsenal of pitches decreases the value of Bonds’ accomplishment.

Bonds is the same way, when Barry talks baseball whether it be mechanics, other players, or stories like this, he is absolutely amazing. However, just like Rose the interview always ends up a HOF\steroid discussion. Mike Tyson with boxing is the same thing, hearing Mike talk about boxing is worth paying for, but it always ends up being a shitshow interview with gothca questions.

Eric Gagne practically 'gave' this at-bat to Bonds - i heard his side of the story; there was one, and only one off-speed agreed upon, prior to this encounter (in Japan). Bonds wanted total control over the entire at-bat; he's selfish for glorification. how many hitters are being given the advanced knowledge it's going to be a fastball? - because then, all the hitter has to do, is start his swing fast, and keep the swing on plane... so, in terms of it being a 'great at-bat'...that's false. you might as well get a pitching machine to throw it down the middle. it's more like a macho-thing...which is all an illusion, to begin with.
