I’m surprised Fallon doesn’t just continue this sketch on his show every now and then. It’s easily his best performance as it’s genuinely funny and one of the only times he isn’t breaking character.

I think it's because the youth don't know who Barry Gibb is. People born in the 1990s are probably the last to remember the BeeGees because of that huge 70s nostalgia boom in the late 90s- early 2000s. I swear I don't even remember what was on TV in 1999 because I had TV land. It was all MASH and Happy Days for this guy. What was on TV at the time Dharma and Greg?

And Barry Gibb himself says he loved it and thinks it’s funny. But he said when Robin was in the US he told him about it but he never heard of it (Robin lived in the UK most of the times) and that Robin didn’t get it all. Too bad, because loved comedy. But Barry has lived here for many, many years and he gets it. In fact, Barry has duel UK and US citizenship and has for many years now. He said this is where he wanted to raise his kids, and he did.

Jimmy Fallon doesnt crack up as much as people say, but to be fair, he was probably in some of the most famous sketches in the show's history and most would break character in those situations. Bill Hader breaks character just as much as Fallon and doesn't get nearly as much shit.

So here's the story for those of you too young, or not in the know. Back in 1997, The Bee Gee's were being interviewed by Clive Anderson on his show, All Talk. Americans may not be able to follow the fast banter, but Clive was being a real heat merchant. I think Barry found it funny for the first ten minutes, but he just kept hurling insults at the brothers. Clive thought he was being funny, but I guess Barry had had enough. In reality, Barry did not yell or say anything rude. He just said "In fact, I might just leave".... The audience and Clive laughed, but within a second or two they realized he was serious, as he and Robin got up, took off their microphones and walked off, leaving a confused, but typical Maurice behind. But Maurice, too, then got up to leave. This whole sketch, which was done several times on SNL, was just a way to lampoon this classic event. Barry is a very nice sweet guy-- as they each are/were. But here, I agree with his wanting to walk off. They were beyond legends by 1997 and did not need to sit there and be roasted as if they were some weird fly-by-nights or newcomers. As far as why they make Justin's Robin character so quiet is more of a lampoon on the fact that in nearly every interview over the years, Barry talks the most. Robin and Maurice always deferred to him as the older brother. But Robin was actually a true intellectual. He loved good conversation-- especially if it was about history; which was his favorite subject. I would have loved to have seen Maurice in this skit, but sadly, he was already deceased by then. No matter what, I think these skits are absolutely hilarious! First time I saw them, I split my sides. The way Fallon imitates Barry's singing voice as his speaking voice is just total comedy gold!

He was telling Andy to get his act together, and take charge of his career, and to man up because he couldn’t carry him anymore, etc. After that,Andy died on March 10th,1988. ---------------------- The situation with Maurice, Barry just said that they weren’t talking. Then Maurice as you know got sick, and died after his surgery from a twisted intestine on January 12th,2003. Barry and Robin were at his bedside with Maurice’s wife and children when he died. ----------------------- Now with Robin, Barry said that they fought for years. Robin even left the group from 1969 until late 1970 because the label chose Barry’s song to be a single, and not his. Barry said that they both wanted to be the attention in the group. That’s why Maurice was the peacemaker, and broke up all of their fights. After they lost Maurice, their fighting increased to the point that they rarely performed with each other. They only performed together about two or three times after Maurice died. Then Robin got sick with cancer, but didn’t tell Barry, and died on May 20th,2012. Barry went to Robin’s bedside and sang to him shortly before his death, but Robin was in a coma.
